Join GoEco in a small, traditional village in Nagano, Japan! Famous for hosting the 1993 Winter Olympics, the area of Nagano has seen a growth in tourists. Many members of the community wish to improve their English language speaking skills. Volunteers on this program will meet members at a local community center and practice speaking with them in a casual, comfortable way. In addition to these tasks, volunteers will take part in cultural activities throughout each week. On their first Monday, volunteers will take an introductory Japanese language class and have a culture lesson. Weekly cultural activities range from sushi and origami-making lessons to visiting the nearby hot springs! In addition to these activities, depending on availability, volunteers may have the opportunity to live with a local family during their placement

Join our 7-week course in Whistler Blackcomb and take your skiing to the next level (or two!). On this course, participants will take both the CSIA Level 1 and Level 2 certifications. This is your quickest route to getting to the Level 2, internationally recognised, standard. This is an intensive course but great fun for those short on time or looking to qualify and then find work during the same season. You'll be coached by the best instructors in town 6 days a week. Not only will this training get you to the required standard for the examinations, but you'll also receive training in avalanche skills (taking the Level 1 AST course) and take the 'Teaching Children Module' of the CSIA. To be eligible for this course you need to be a low-intermediate standard skier or above. The course moves at quite a pace so is not suitable for people brand new to the sport.

This course will be your opportunity to learn a variety of outdoor skills across the western United States and earn a Wilderness Medicine certification. Paddle down rapids on Utah rivers, break trails through Wyoming’s snowy mountains, see ancient rock art, and climb high granite crags. The skills in your semester may include a combination of rock climbing, whitewater paddling, mountaineering, canyoneering, and backpacking. Each new skill will start with the basics and your instructors will teach everyone at their own level of experience, so you’ll find plenty of support and new challenges whether you’re a beginner or an experienced outdoors person. As you progress through your semester, you’ll build on the leadership skills you’ve learned throughout the course.
