What inspired you to go abroad?
Ultimately my love for adventure, cultural exploration, and stories. I wanted to experience life abroad before I went to university that would allow me to experience different cultures, to challenge what I held as my core beliefs, and what I wanted my life to look like as an emerging adult.
Why did you choose Travel For Teens?
I wanted a balance between outdoor activities found in a traditional backpacking trip such as hiking and the ability to explore the cultural landmarks of each destination. The program did not only that but seemed to cram in more than any other travel group I have seen before. That truly gave me the experience that made the most of the money spent on the trip.
What was your favorite part about Florence?
In Florence, it was by far looking at David. As a self-proclaimed art nerd, it was amazing to see the pieces I had spent so much time learning about. In Cinque Terre, I loved hiking between the cities and experiencing the countryside. In Interlaken, paragliding is the ultimate way to view the city and one I would definitely recommend, even if you aren't an adrenaline junkie. Finally, in Paris, I loved practicing my French and experiencing the little things. For example, on the final night of our trip, we had a celebration by the Seine at night. It was simple but heartfelt as we told tales of our amazing two weeks and expressed how much we were going to miss each other.
What made your experience abroad unique?

Cinque Terre
The counselors were the top of the top, seemingly overqualified for the position. I state this because it shows just how much they love and are invested in the programs they travel with. They have a true passion for instilling the love of travel and learning on teens, changing the trip from a seemingly normal travel group to a close-knit family that continues to stay in contact. Our group became a family, one linked with unforgettable experiences and stories that continue to influence me today.
How did local staff support you throughout your program?
They helped in coordinating flights which was a big help when traveling abroad for the first time alone. They were available by phone and constantly ready to help. In getting to the airport, I received a phone call telling me how to get to the next destination and where to meet up with the group flight. Travel for Teens provides amazing service, personalized and truly caring about the wellbeing of the individual.
What's one thing you wish you would have done differently?
I would not have done anything differently, as I spent every day to its fullest potential.
Describe a typical day in the life of your program.
Wow, is it packed! From the early morning to late at night, Travel for Teens made sure every moment held some significance to the trip. Since our trip spanned over three countires, a travel day would consist of early morning trains to reach our next destination. Once settled in, no day was like the other. We could go to a museum, have the city's traditional lunch, then hike to the best views of the city, then finish with a dinner and exploring more of the city at night. We ventured to beach towns, metropolitan cities, and cultural icons of Europe.
What did you enjoy doing in your free time?
There wasn't much free time as each day was dedicated to exploring the city to the max. However, when the rare moments of free time presented themselves, I loved just to walk around, talking with friends about the new destinations and experiences. Meals were amazing as it allowed our group to connect. It was simple but absolutely priceless.
What was your accommodation like? What did you like best about it?
Our accommodations ranged from hotels to youth hostels (though it was the nicest hostel I had ever seen). The beds were comfortable and the rooms were pretty spacious considering the price. Sometimes the bathrooms were a little small but it never bothered me. My favorite thing about our accommodations was the comfort it provided. After a long day of travel, it was nice to simply relax and rest up before the next day started.
What is one thing every participant should know before participating in your program?

Hiking in Cinque Terre
Make the most out of every instance. It's corny, I know, but sometimes the best advice is the most overused for a reason. Due to the fast-paced nature of this trip, there were multiple instances where I felt exhausted and would rather stay in the hotel than explore a new part of the city. Every time I thought this way, venturing out and exploring would quickly prove my thoughts wrong. These trips are the memories of a lifetime and you get out what you put in. This is a once in a lifetime trip full of adventure and a community that will influence you for the rest of your life.
Now that you're home, how has your program abroad impacted your life?
After backpacking through Europe, I came home and donated 3/4ths of my closet. This trip not only changed how I viewed my lifestyle but actually convinced me to take action. I learned that in two weeks, I could live solely out of my backpack and thus, did not actually need most of my possessions. I learned to not live in what-ifs when gauging the necessity of my possessions but rather take the time to deal with the issue if it actually did occur. This mindset transfers to my life as well, in adopting a live in the moment mindset that allows me to experience the most of my environment.
Would you recommend Travel For Teens to others? Why?
Yes, definitely! If you want a trip that combines the traditional European backpacking trip with a bit more comfort, this is the trip for you. This program's fast-paced nature truly makes the most of your money, experiencing all the city has to offer before moving on to the next location. The counselors are a great support system, nurturing your independence while being amazing guides to your host city. It's an adventure packed two weeks that will give you friends to last a lifetime and amazing stories.
