Agriculture, Conservation, and Food Security in Uganda

The Real Uganda's volunteers assist our partners with a variety of agriculture and conservation activities. Because subsistence farming is a way of life in Uganda, efficient agricultural techniques and extra hands help improve the lives of rural Ugandans. Volunteers work on communal farms. They clear land, prepare soil, plant food crops and trees, weed, harvest, and chase away pests. Volunteer ideas and energy encourages our farmers and eases their work. Garden tools and training are provided on-site, but volunteers are encouraged to bring appropriate garden boots, gloves, and sun hat. This is a challenging and rewarding program for volunteers interested in hard work, and learning about food security and the effects of global climate change in developing countries. Other activities such as women empowerment and primary school teaching may be on offer by the host organization. Volunteers should dig in and try everything. The exchange of ideas and culture is highly valued in Uganda.

Uganda Organic Farm Volunteer Program

Ssamba Foundation runs an organic farm just 40 minutes drive south of Mukono, located close to the beautiful Lake Victoria and surrounded by beautiful nature. This is a cool place to hang out with the locals as you enjoy organically grown foods and bask in the beauty of nature. Ssamba Foundation strives to improve the livelihoods of this rural community through a farm project focused on improved agriculture practices and environmentally sustainable technologies. We also use the farm to teach children simple methods like growing organic fruits and vegetables: tomatoes, maize, beans, cabbage, onions, carrots, pumpkins, watermelons, mangoes, and passion fruit. The organization invests in agriculture because it is the backbone of Uganda's economy, with over 80 percent of the population directly or indirectly involved in various aspects of this sector. Volunteer work at the farm varies from day to day and season to season. This is the perfect opportunity to be of service while gaining valuable life experiences in farming in Uganda. Participants are essential in all operations at this beautiful organic farm project.

Environmental Conservation: Greening Uganda Schools Project

PLATFORM for the NEEDY (PLANE) is passionate about environmental conservation. We are seeking compassionate and environment-friendly volunteers and interns to help us in our project, Greening Uganda Schools. Join us online as we raise funds to procure tree saplings or in Uganda as we start nursery beds in school compounds and gardens, an effort geared toward mitigating the effects of climate change. It's our responsibility to educate children about the value of trees and forests, helping to foster their love for and connection with nature. Ultimately, we aim to create future generations who are conscious of the benefits of trees and forests as well as the need for sustainable management. Under the Greening Uganda Schools, our team and volunteers at PLANE encourage and support the young generation to love forests and take care of trees. We inculcate the culture of tree planting among children, with the goal of environmental prosperity. This project is crucial in preventing environmental degradation and in sensitizing society towards a more sustainable lifestyle.
