Volunteer in Uganda: Wildlife and Chimpanzee Conservation

The accommodation comprises modern, well-equipped apartments in the heart of Fort Portal. You will stay in private or shared rooms with large single or double beds, Western-style toilets, and hot showers.

The apartments also offer WiFi, a comfortable living room, and a dining area where you can relax. The large, green grounds provide a space to unwind during your free time.

Once you reach Fort Portal, a project staff member will meet and take you to your accommodation. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to rest and prepare for the project. On the Monday morning following your arrival, you will receive a thorough orientation that will provide a comprehensive overview of the project, explain your daily tasks, and introduce you to the team. This will ensure you are well-prepared and ready for the upcoming weeks.

In Uganda, you'll focus on conservation and human-wildlife conflict mitigation, working with local communities to build beehive fences, install biogas systems, and support agriculture. Your tasks include species surveys, data collection, and research, particularly monitoring chimpanzees and other species. This work helps reduce conflicts and trains communities in sustainable development and conservation.

Vegetarian meals can be arranged, typically featuring beans for lunch and dinner and eggs for breakfast. The tropical climate offers seasonal fruits like bananas, papayas, mangoes, and pineapples. However, the variety of vegetarian dishes may be limited, so consider bringing protein supplements. You'll need to arrange your meals during weekend excursions or safaris.

The volunteer group in Uganda consists of up to 20 volunteers. You will be supported by three research experts and eight additional staff members who will assist the team.
