TEFL Courses & Certification in Pretoria, South Africa

As the executive capital of South Africa, Pretoria serves as a unique place to earn your TEFL certification. The Rainbow Nation has eleven national languages, which includes English as the fourth most spoken. This means that you will find enough comfort in hearing English regularly, but there is also enough language diversity for you to experience. Pretoria is an opportune site for your TEFL certification because of its three universities (many opportunities to meet new people!), and also because of the city’s beauty and wonder, especially when the jacarandas trees bloom in a purple rain.

A Guide to TEFL Courses in Pretoria

Popular Types of TEFL Programs in Pretoria

There are many TEFL certification courses out there, which can make picking the perfect one a tricky task. Here is some information about the different programs that are available to you in Pretoria.

The courses that are available in Pretoria can be completed in an online format with supplemental classroom experience in practice locations, such as Pretoria. This gives you the flexibility to travel, or be exactly where you need to be, but also gain hands-on experience in the practice locations when the time is right. There are also focus-specific programs such as business English, teaching English to young learners, or one-on-one teaching.

You will have great flexibility in choosing the length of your course, which will allow you to cater your TEFL course to your needs. Your options range anywhere from 20-140 hours which can be completed anywhere from two days to six weeks. This means you can put in the time and effort you are ready to give, with the result of a certification waiting on the other side. But remember, some TEFL job placements require a specific number of completed certification hours for you to be considered, so don’t forget to look into those requirements if you have a specific location in mind that you are hoping to teach (although planning a celebratory safari in Kruger National Park may seem more exciting, doing your TEFL research is equally important).

The programs generally offer you access to job boards for your job search, as well as possible paid opportunities in places like China, Spain, Thailand and Vietnam. If you are interested in keeping your newly learned TEFL skills on the African continent (especially if you haven’t had enough time to bless the rains down in Africa, or take some time to do the things you never had) check out these opportunities to help in your job search. The wonderful thing about completing your TEFL course in person through, is that you are able to build and develop relationships with the people you are learning from, and also the location you are living in. This will be an experience that you will never forget, and that will open up real job opportunities for you all over the world.

Excellent course

The course provides a good refresher on the basics of the English language and then turns its focus to providing everything you need to get started teaching English to foreign learners. The layout is very good and allows you to read through a few lessons, even if you have as little as 20 minutes to spare in your day! Great for someone starting out who may be employed and looking to change career. As long as you can spare maybe a half and hour here and there every week you can complete this course easily
