6-week Gap Year Course in Italy | Art History Abroad

This 6-week Gap Year Course travels through Italy three times a year—Spring (January to early March), Early Summer (April to June), and Autumn (October to December). You will visit Venice, Castelfranco Bologna, Florence, Siena, and Roma, with day trips to San Gimignano, Verona, Naples, and Pompei. We use art and architecture to cover all subjects, be it history, art history, philosophy, politics, music and literature. For AHA, teaching students how to form a "habit" of creativity is something we take very seriously. This is why we have numerous creative sessions incorporated, allowing students to experiment with watercolors, sketching, creative writing, paper marbling, rowing in the Venice Canal, cooking classes, etc. We hope to help students form new ideas and have the confidence to articulate them. Our Gap Year is a wonderfully ambitious program with interests that spread from the ancient world in Rome and Naples to the Renaissance in Florence and contemporary art in Venice. You will learn about Leonardo, appreciate Titian, and understand why we should know about Michelangelo.

The Siena Project 2026

Join us in Siena, a historic city now facing the modern challenges of migration in Europe. Since 2021, Siena (pop. 55,000) has seen an influx of migrants, largely from Pakistan. Within a year, 1,500 young men arrived—some placed in housing facilities, others forced to seek shelter in parking lots or behind the train station. This course uses narrative storytelling as a tool for social change. You’ll study the theory and practice of public interest communications, then partner with a local organization supporting migrant assimilation. Through hands-on projects, you’ll apply strategic communications and storytelling to help shift narratives around migration. Immersed in Italian culture, you’ll build skills in interviewing, writing, photography, and videography while learning how research-based communications can address real-world issues. This course blends academic study with practical experience to show how storytelling can drive meaningful social impact..

Medlink Students was very helpful. I had previosly looked at another company but I decided to go for Medlink Students which was honestly a great choise. There were a couple of issues regarding the 2 universities I had registerd which meant I had to look for other universities even though it was not what I origianlly wanted to hapen. Medlink Students were very good at helping me pick another university. They are always there to answr my questions and isues. From their help and their agency you can tell they really want to suport their students until the end of their jurney and I have felt that through and throughout.
