Forum-Nexus: A Positive Undergraduate Experience
March 26, 2026by: Steve Tran - United StatesI had a really good experience with Forum-Nexus overall. The program gave me the chance to travel a lot, meet great people, and learn more about different countries in a way that felt interesting and personal. I liked that the staff was friendly and helpful, and the hotels were some of the best I’ve stayed in. Some visits were better than others, but the overall balance of academics, free time, and cultural experiences made the program worth it. I’d recommend it to other students, especially if they want to make friends and grow through travel.

My time in Milan and Europe is something I will always remember! Everything about Italy and the program made my experience even more enjoyable! From the transportation to the events and field trips, I was able to explore parts of Italy I could have never imagined I would see. The amazing staff and professors made the academic side of the program amazing as well! As a lover of art, being able to travel Europe to see artworks I've learned about was a dream come true. My travels allowed me to gain new perspectives, and I will forever be thankful for these experiences.
I have zero complaints!
March 03, 2025by: Sean Forsythe - United StatesI am so happy, I will be recommend it to everyone at my home place. It has been so cool to basically have a guided yet laid back tour across Europe. You are all amazing, perfect balance of there to support us but still give us tons of freedom. Went to 2 professional visits, but they were super cool. felt I learned a lot and they were interesting. The independent cultural visits were encouraging us to get out and see the amazing sights is perfect. It made me appreciate where i was so much more. The accommodation was amazing!
I enjoyed the program and its layout
February 16, 2025by: S J - United StatesIt helped to open my mind and learn how to navigate being alone in another country. Also introduced me to new experiences. I loved the staff. I particularly loved the energy that Hugo brought as well as his wisdom. Professional visits were unique experiences that gave us opportunities not everyone would get part in. Hotels were really great. My level of international IQ certainly improved. I also have new perspectives given we have also seen the countries that we learned about first hand. I have much more of a grasp on the understanding.

Overall a great experience
January 21, 2025by: Madison Sirriano - United StatesIndependent cultural visits went well. as expected. many of the ICVs were things i planned on doing. I was unimpressed by the professional visits they felt very uninteractive. Organization needs improvement, sticking to the syllabi. I am happy that I came here I have made amazing friends and I have been able to visit places that I would never have ever known about. IT was a great experience but somehow expensive for my budget.

Absolutely amazing experience!!!
December 10, 2024by: Lily BowmanProgram: IES Abroad - Study Abroad in Italy
I greatly enjoyed my experience abroad with the Umbra Institute. The institution was super helpful in preparing to leave the United States and provided lots of information as well as a pre-departure module that gave us important information and a “what to expect” page. Umbra also has a super up to date webpage with blurbs from past student’s which was helpful for me to see others’ experiences. Upon arrival and throughout the semester, the staff made themselves readily available to help during the adjustment period and beyond. They encouraged us to travel and experience our semester to the fullest. The staff gave us recommendations and were hands on throughout the semester. Our professors are simply the best of the best and are super knowledgeable about their fields. The school environment is welcoming and comfortable for all students which allowed me to feel equipped for learning and experimentation. There were endless ways to get involved throughout the semester through community engagement classes, volunteer opportunities, and small group involvement. I was apart of the Umbra Reps program which was a small group of six students who helped with student activities and involvement throughout the semester. I felt like I have been able to really immerse in the culture of Perugia and experience many places this semester. I will truly miss this place and this staff so much!!

Ciao Bella!
October 19, 2024by: Yasmin Kerikar - United StatesProgram: IES Abroad Milan – Business Studies
Studying abroad in Milan with IES Abroad was an absolutely incredible experience that I will cherish forever. Before applying, I always thought I’d end up in Paris or London, but I am so glad I chose Italy! There were moments throughout my time in Milan when I couldn't believe I was actually living in such a vibrant, culturally rich city. The courses I took were amazing and truly enriched my academic journey. From delving into the power of storytelling to exploring Italy's cinematic history, each class sparked my passion for both business and film. The Italian language class was especially rewarding, as it allowed me to immerse myself in the culture even more. It was a perfect blend of academic rigor and personal growth. I also loved how my commute around Milan was never a hassle—public transport was easy to navigate, and I got to enjoy the beauty of the city on a daily basis. Being exposed to Italian culture and customs made me feel like I was truly living the Italian way, from the food to the fashion to the interactions with locals. Milan itself was a stunning backdrop for my studies. From the unforgettable experience of catching celebrities at Fashion Week to discovering new areas around the city, there was always something new and exciting to explore. And it's true what they say, gelato is better than ice cream!
