Spend your summer abroad in the incomparable city of London, England, with AIFS Abroad! You'll earn up to 8 credits over 6 weeks at University College London (UCL), consistently ranked as one of the world’s top universities. All courses are taught over 3 weeks. You may enroll for either of the two 3-week sessions (Session 1 or 2) or two consecutive sessions (Session 1 and Session 2). You will take one 4-credit course, choosing from a broad range of subject areas: from Art to Law to Literature to Technology. You will stay in a double room with a local homestay family. For an additional fee, you can choose to live in a residence with other students. Homestay students receive breakfast daily. The neurobiology that underpins neurodegenerative disease has been a focus of intense and exciting research activity over the last several decades. In this course, you will learn how neurobiology is harnessed to identify treatments and create sensitive tests for early disease diagnosis. The case study of Alzheimer's disease will illustrate this. Key learning outcomes will include appreciating early neurobiological changes that arise in affected neurons, understanding the effects of toxic proteins on neurons as the disease progresses, identifying treatment targets, and learning how disease-related changes are picked up in diagnostic tests.
