Seamester is the educational adventure of a lifetime! For more than 40 years, we have offered unparalleled educational voyages where students spend a semester at sea sailing between islands, countries, and even continents. We design our programs to provide engaging learning experiences with real outcomes in ways that are impossible to replicate in the traditional classroom. Living as part of a close-knit team on an ocean-going vessel, our students learn fundamental lessons beyond academics: teamwork, leadership, and personal responsibility. They receive academic credit from the University of South Florida, along with PADI scuba certifications and IYT sailing certifications. Our programs are designed to inspire students to realize that it’s the journey, not the destination, that matters the most.

Imagine studying veterinary medicine on the beautiful, peaceful, tropical island of Dominica—often called the Nature Island of the Eastern Caribbean. US and international students taking the 4-year DVM program at St. Nicholas University School of Veterinary Medicine are required to have a minimum of 60 college/university credits. They must have earned a high school diploma with official transcripts displaying successful completion of English, Mathematics, and Chemistry with a minimum grade of C (not required for the 5-year DVM Program with PreVet). Plus, all prospective students are required to demonstrate a minimum level of English language proficiency before admission. At St. Nicholas University School of Veterinary Medicine, we have modern training equipment at our disposal. You will gain hands-on experience in our University Veterinary clinic, which also supports St Nicholas Animal Rescue and Shelter – a non-profit we sponsor. Our graduates may qualify for work abroad, including in Canada and the USA. In addition to our already low tuition fees, we offer various scholarship possibilities for those in need.
A Guide to Studying Abroad in Dominica
Where to Study Abroad in Dominica
The island nation of Dominica is located in the West Indies, where you’ll encounter ample plants, animal, and bird species among lush landscapes. With a blend of African, Caribbean, American, British, and French influences, you’ll discover a cultural mosaic here as well. We’ve searched high and low, and here are the best places to study abroad in Dominica.
Roseau. The capital and largest city of Dominica is located in the south on the western coast. Here you’ll ogle at French colonial architecture, extensive botanical gardens, and the Morne Trois Pitons National Park. The University of the West Indies is located in Roseau, which is open to majors from communications to human resources management. Be sure to enjoy natural hot water baths and the Boiling Lake after you ace your exams!
Portsmouth. You’ll find the second largest city of Dominica on the Indian River in the northwestern coast with less than 3,000 residents. Watch a cricket game at Benjamin's Park, visit the farmer’s market during the week, and snap pics of wetlands while you trek the area and coral reefs as you dive down under at Cabrits National Park. Don’t forget your studies, too.
Calibishie. This village town is located on the northern coast of Dominica with plenty of beaches to catch some rays or surf some waves. Even scenes from “Pirates of the Caribbean” were filmed here — so “island school” just got way cooler! From the rugged mountains to the bathing pools to the rainforests, students who love nature will want to visit this little piece of paradise. You might just even spot the Jaco parrot.
