While every country has a somewhat unique culinary culture, some places on earth are especially famous for their national brand of cookery. Although the following locations are some of the most popular places to study culinary arts abroad, also bear in mind that you are by no mearns limited to these locations. A world of food awaits you, so get creative! 

In the Americas, the United States, Mexico, and Argentina stand out as some of the most popular destinations for studying culinary arts abroad. The United States features a tremendous amount of culinary influences (the “melting pot” metaphor can be taken literally). Mexico and Argentina each have more distinct national flavors, which are influential around the world. 

In Europe, France and Italy reign supreme as the culinary giants. While it is of course possible to take culinary courses in most countries across Europe, such as in Spain, Greece, and Portugal, for example, France and Italy are generally considered the most prestigious on the international level. 

In Asia there are a huge diversity of options that await culinary arts students. Japan, China, Thailand, Vietnam, and India are just a handful of Asian countries that boast internationally renown cuisine. Even within these countries there is a huge amount of culinary variance from region to region!

Studying Culinary Arts Abroad

The food industry is absolutely massive, for the most basic reason that everyone, everywhere needs to eat to survive. From restaurants to corporate relations to catering services, there is a tremendous amount of professional diversity within the field of culinary arts. As you can therefore imagine, there are also a ton of different culinary arts courses you can take while studying abroad. 

Some of the most popular subject areas within the field of culinary arts include nutrition, hospitality, baking, pastries, and viniculture, and these all in addition to whatever specific cooking courses are inspired by the local culture, such as courses on local wine production or even the art making gelato. Truly you will have your hands full with the amount of courses you may want to take while studying culinary arts abroad. 

Culinary arts is different from most academic subjects in that you will most often be studying the subject at a school specifically devoted to the field. Culinary arts schools exist in different shapes and sizes all around the globe; they also offer different degree programs, ranging from professional cooking certifications to bachelor’s in gastronomy.
