Volunteer in Healthcare in India

Volunteers on the Health project work in either local hospitals or slum clinics, shadowing well-respected physicians who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and expertise, while offering a valuable insight into the healthcare system of one of the world’s fastest growing countries. While hospitals are under-resourced and equipment is basic, these institutions are bound by government regulations and cannot allow international volunteers to perform tasks independently. In Delhi, the role of pre-medical students is primarily to observe and learn about prevalent diseases and how these diseases are treated by the healthcare system in India. Volunteers generally assist local doctors and nurses with routine jobs, such as taking the height, weight and blood pressure measurements of patients. During routine check-ups, volunteers can provide advice regarding nutrition, health, and sanitation. Volunteers on the Slum Clinic placement will have the opportunity to perform more hands-on tasks such as treating minor injuries as well as cleaning and bandaging wounds.

Arts and Culture Internship (Cultural Museum)

IGS has placed students in some of the world’s most exciting museums. Our internship placements typically fall into two categories: working on the floor or conducting research and marketing behind the scenes. Floor work includes assisting the docent in the setup and interpretation of current exhibits and galleries. This may include constructing backdrops and computer modeling. Once the exhibit is in place, you are asked to learn the history of the showcased items and share your knowledge with the visiting public. Behind-the-scenes work may include conducting original research on life histories or local historical events. This may include online research and library visits. Likewise, you may be asked to conduct interviews in the community and record knowledge that is in danger of being lost forever. Life changing experience

Program: Baret Scholars Gap Year Program

The most eye opening experience, questioning everything you go through, you knew, discovering yourself among a cohort of brilliant and unique minds. Every virtue is welcomed and supported to the fullest. We scholars discovered the impact of the frase "If you want something you just have to do it." We unlearned and relearned how to perceive life, how to grow, how to move forward, how to relate to people, how to experience life to the fullest. I believe the knowledge I gained from this experience gave me years of lived life worth of knowledge, unreachable without something like Baret.
