Support local early-childhood and daycare centres that serve children from disadvantaged or low-income communities. You will help provide a safe, nurturing environment where young children can learn, play and grow while their families work or study. Your typical tasks include assisting with basic lessons, organising games and arts and crafts, supervising playtime, reading stories, helping with meals and hygiene routines, and supporting daily operations of the centre such as cleaning, preparing materials, or tidying up. You may also help plan simple educational or recreational activities to stimulate learning and social development. This programme suits caring, patient and energetic volunteers who enjoy working with children. No prior childcare or teaching qualifications are required because local staff provide guidance and support. A friendly attitude, enthusiasm and willingness to adapt are the most important qualities. In your free time you can explore Cape Town’s vibrant neighborhoods, enjoy coastal walks or beaches, visit cultural and historical landmarks, experience local cuisine, and get to know the community and fellow volunteers living nearby.

Seamester is the educational adventure of a lifetime! For more than 40 years, we have offered unparalleled educational voyages where students spend a semester at sea sailing between islands, countries, and even continents. We design our programs to provide engaging learning experiences with real outcomes in ways that are impossible to replicate in the traditional classroom. Living as part of a close-knit team on an ocean-going vessel, our students learn fundamental lessons beyond academics: teamwork, leadership, and personal responsibility. They receive academic credit from the University of South Florida, along with PADI scuba certifications and IYT sailing certifications. Our programs are designed to inspire students to realize that it’s the journey, not the destination, that matters the most.

Explore the exceptional bird life of the southern Kruger National Park on a dedicated birding safari. Located in one of South Africa’s premier wildlife destinations, this safari offers the perfect blend of scenic landscapes, rich biodiversity, and prime bird-watching opportunities. Kruger’s mix of bushveld, riverine forest, and open savanna supports an astonishing variety of bird species. Berg-en-Dal lies in the southwestern corner of the park and is known for its varied terrain. This ecological variety attracts a wide array of bird species. Skukuza, the park’s largest rest camp, serves as a hub for birding and wildlife observation. Its proximity to rivers and mixed woodland makes it an ideal location to spot both common and elusive bird species. Birding highlights in the area include the Lilac-breasted Roller, a favorite among photographers; the Southern Ground Hornbill, known for its size and red facial skin; the Hamerkop, famous for building enormous, intricate nests; and the Giant Kingfisher, Africa’s largest kingfisher species. With over 500 bird species recorded in Kruger, this region offers unparalleled birding opportunities.

The Pongola Game Reserve is a private wildlife reserve situated along the Pongolapoort Dam in northern KwaZulu-Natal province. This program encompasses monthly Nile crocodile daytime and spotlight counts, as well as terrestrial herpetofaunal surveys, which are conducted for a week each month during low moonlight conditions. The terrestrial habitat consists of thornveld savanna. Crocodile counts are conducted from a boat. Herpetological assessments rely on pitfall and funnel trap arrays, which are checked twice a day. Volunteers are transported across the protected area in an open-backed vehicle. The area is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including hippos, ostriches, and several game species, which are frequently sighted during field activities. Elephants and leopards are occasionally observed. The program runs from November 16 to 23, 2025; December 14 to 21, 2025; January 18 to 25, 2026; and February 15 to 22, 2026. Accommodation, food, and transportation from the Richards Bay airport are included in the participation price.
