Provide medical healthcare for those in need while volunteering in the lively city of San Jose in Costa Rica! Within this unique program are two different placement options: healthcare and medical care. The healthcare option is for students studying health sciences, nursing, and pre-med. The medical care option is for licensed medical professionals or individuals finishing medical school. For an additional fee, volunteers have the ability to practice or learn Spanish! Those placed in healthcare will focus mostly on providing friendship to patients and caring for their general health needs, while those placed in medical will be involved in more hands-on tasks such as taking vitals and other tasks. You don’t necessarily have to have a medical degree, as requirements are different for each program. Rafting on Costa Rica’s exhilarating Pacuare River, the vibrancy of life in the jungle beckons us in the calls of toucans and howler monkeys. Partnering with local biologists on the Pacific Coast, we learn about the current issues facing conservation efforts Basking in the crystal clear waters of improbably white sand beaches, we take in the beauty of the Caribbean. Exploring the underwater life of the reefs of Belize, we gain insights into a world rarely witnessed earning our SCUBA certification and participating in a lionfish eradication project.

Teach English to varying age-groups in the local community of Quepos. You’ll support the improvement of vocabulary, literacy, and conduct conversational English classes. This is also an opportunity to facilitate discussions on conservation awareness, and practice your conversational Spanish. You’ll be working alongside local partners, GVI staff, and fellow participants from around the world to support sustainable objectives that have been carefully aligned with the 17 United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). This includes UN SDG 4: Quality Education. GVI has child protection policies in place to ensure projects adhere to ethical best practices. When you aren’t participating in the project, explore Manuel Antonio National Park, go whitewater kayaking, or view active volcanoes from a safe distance. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit various beaches or enjoy canopy and coffee-related tours.
