Join us in Costa Rica for unforgettable memories and valuable service work! We will have the unique opportunity to perform 20 hours of valuable service work in two different communities. In La Fortuna we will work alongside the local association of Boy Scouts with various projects like planting trees to promote a better ecosystem, light construction, and clean-up projects. TFT feels strongly about the impact of this organization and we contribute every year to help them continue their mission in the community. In Sámara we work with another local association that provides supplemental educational, recreational, and career opportunities for youth with limited resources in the rural beach communities of the surrounding area. We will be helping run one of their many programs focusing on academic and artistic education, environmental consciousness, health, and socio-cultural development. Projects vary but our service work typically consists of working on art projects with the children, reading to them, teaching them English, and general upkeep of the school such as painting and light maintenance.

Embark on an exciting journey that combines travel and conservation through STC's Green Turtle Eco-Volunteer Program in Costa Rica. This captivating opportunity allows you to actively participate in the protection of endangered sea turtles while enjoying an exotic destination. Tortuguero's black sand beach serves as a haven for the largest nesting population of green turtles, scientifically known as Chelonia mydas, in the entire Atlantic Ocean. These magnificent creatures, weighing an impressive 500 pounds (200 kilograms), rank among the largest sea turtles globally. Through STC's extensive research efforts, numerous secrets surrounding the reproductive ecology and behavior of green turtles have been unraveled. By engaging in long-term tagging projects during the nesting season in Tortuguero, the program enables the monitoring of the nesting population, crucial for evaluating the species' survival status. As an Eco-Volunteer Participant, you will have the opportunity to work closely with nesting turtles that can weigh up to 350 pounds and measure 3 to 4 feet in length. This hands-on experience promises both educational enrichment and a whole lot of fun.
