Provide medical healthcare for those in need while volunteering in the lively city of San Jose in Costa Rica! Within this unique program are two different placement options: healthcare and medical care. The healthcare option is for students studying health sciences, nursing, and pre-med. The medical care option is for licensed medical professionals or individuals finishing medical school.
For an additional fee, volunteers have the ability to practice or learn Spanish! Those placed in healthcare will focus mostly on providing friendship to patients and caring for their general health needs, while those placed in medical will be involved in more hands-on tasks such as taking vitals and other tasks. Some tasks for these programs may include, but are not limited to providing companionship for patients, distributing medications, assisting with general patient check-ups, taking vital signs, and organizing and updating patient records.

I volunteered at an HIV-positive facility, where I met a variety of patients, and even though I did not speak Spanish well, they tried to communicate with me using gestures. I also had the opportunity to communicate with the medical staff in a mixture of English and Spanish, which was a very interesting experience.
Nothing compares to these types of volunteering projects. Nothing. Traveling is fun but immersing yourself in a culture is another story in itself. With Maximo Nivel I was able to learn the local language, cultural rules and have the opportunity of eating the food. Super good food by the way. Living with a family can be scary but I am happy that I was not alone. I super duper recommend learning the local lingo before heading out. It will be essential to say the least. Just have fun. Appreciate what you have and how you got here. Be ready to learn from every person and experience. Literally, ride the wave. Good luck my duudes
Volunteered at a care home for dementia patients in San Jose for three weeks. I had done very little volunteering of this type before, but I absolutely loved it! All of the staff and patients were wonderful and I learned a lot about compassion.
I had a really geat experience with this company. My placement was amazing and I loved working with the residents and staff. All of my accomadations were well taken care of. overall my experience has been amazing.
