Jewelry Design - Fall Semester - IED Milano

Jewelry is an art that transforms ideas into tangible objects, reflecting historical, cultural, and technological contexts. This educational path covers jewelry artistry, history, techniques, and design, with lessons Monday to Friday mornings and/or afternoons. The course integrates with the first semester of the Three-year Jewelry Design program, excluding Design Methods and jewelry design classes, which are for semester students. Throughout the semester, lectures alternate with labs that provide technical, cultural, and design skills to foster creativity and identity. The initial section covers art history, movements, and the evolution of jewelry. You will learn traditional drafting techniques for depicting jewelry and the proper design methods (tools, techniques, materials) for prototyping. The course also examines the link between art, fashion, and the changing nature of jewelry and body accessories. This course targets secondary school graduates, university students, and professionals from other fields seeking a career change. It requires only an intermediate level of English and a high school diploma; no other prerequisites are required.

Jewelry Design Course

In a world that's continually changing, it’s increasingly important to stay up-to-date. Today, the role of a jewelry designer has become increasingly valuable and sought after. It is precisely for this reason that the Burgo Institute has developed the Jewelry Design course, enabling us to train specialists in response to the significant demand from the fashion world. This course provides our students with the tools to learn fundamental techniques for representing a jewel, including ecoline, Pantone, pencils, pastels, tempera, and technical representation using orthogonal projections. The acquisition of these techniques is possible after an anatomical study of the hands and face. They will also dive into an in-depth study of costume jewelry, the symbolism of jewels, and more commercial and technical knowledge of the quality of precious and semi-precious stones and metals.

A year with SRISA

A year abroad is something everyone should have the opportunity to do. It was a beautiful experience and I met a lot of great people and Firenze is a wonderful city. The staff at SRISA made all the difference, they were wonderful people; teachers and admins both. For anyone debating to do a year or a semester, a year allows you a bit more time to settle in, however there is a feeling of rebuilding at the semester change as few other students (about 6 during my term) stay. Most people in the city will speak english. SRISA is flexible about studying with a few partner universities as well. The planned trips are fun, and weekends are left pretty clear to have more travel time.
