Lion, Elephant and Wildlife Conservation in Zimbabwe

Volunteer in our Lion, Elephant, and Wildlife Conservation project in Zimbabwe and work with some of Africa’s most iconic animals. Located at a private game park, this project aims at ensuring the resident animals, including lions and orphaned elephants, are protected, cared for and thriving. As a volunteer, you will become part of the wildlife protection team and assist with essential snare sweeps and boundary patrols, in addition to contributing to reserve management activities. You will also help raise awareness on conservation issues and encourage locals to be passionate about protecting our precious wildlife. No specific skills are required to join this volunteer program. However, you must be in good health with a decent level of fitness. Any previous experience in riding horses would be an advantage.

Best Volunteer Programs in Zimbabwe

Between the Zambezi and Limpopo rivers, Zimbabwe is renowned for its great natural beauty. Go, see one of the world's biggest and most spectacular waterfalls, Victoria Falls, or why not explore the savannah or the mountainous Eastern Highlands? Zimbabwe has unique, ruined ancient cities, making it an interesting destination. However, poverty, hunger, deforestation, and poaching are big challenges facing the country. Thus, there is a real need for volunteers like you to work on various projects. These projects require different skills and abilities. General requirements include the following: - At least 18 years old for most of the volunteer projects. When in doubt, we advise you to contact the local project manager. - You should have an intermediate level of English skills; some projects also require advanced proficiency. - Depending on the project you're interested in, you might need to provide a criminal background check and a health declaration before volunteering.

Wildlife Conservation with Horses in Zimbabwe

This Wildlife Conservation with Horses volunteer project is set on the borders of one of Africa’s most iconic national parks, Hwange. You will assist locals on the ground in the care of horses and get involved with regular snare sweep patrols with rangers in the fight against poaching. Teach the local anti-poaching unit to be better horsemen. Visit the Painted Dog research unit to hear about the challenges these critically endangered animals face. Learn from those involved in Lion Research about lion monitoring, satellite collaring, and the challenges they face on the fringes of local villages. Educate the local children and community on animal husbandry. Take local children for horse rides. Help the struggling local community to become more sustainable through eco-friendly production. Assist with the care, grooming, and schooling of the horses in the yard. This incredible location allows for great riding opportunities through one of Africa’s most renowned wildlife areas, from the natural beauty of a teak forest to the Miombo woodlands. We cater to all riding abilities, even those with no riding skills who would like to learn how to be comfortable on a horse.

This was a life changing experience!!

Coming here I didn't have any experience in volunteer work at all or going on a journey on my own for that matter, so you could say that I was quite nervous about it. You read these amazing stories about others that have been there, telling you that "It is the best thing they've ever done" and "That it was such a life changing experience", and you wonder if and how much of this will apply to you. So, you are now reading this review just as I did with others a couple of weeks ago and I am going to say the exact same thing: It really ís one of the best things I've ever done and it really hás been a life changer for me. The Antelope Park is very well organized, and they will do everything in their power to help and support you in any way they can. Especially Rosine, the volunteer and community’s manager, made sure that I had the time of my life and that I got to make the trips that I really wanted! All the staff with whom I had the pleasure of meeting and working with are also such nice and amazing people. They really made me, and the other volunteer’s part of the big and warm AP family and I want to thank every single one for that! Besides working with these lovely people, I also got the chance to work and interact with the incredible African Wildlife that I adore so much. During your stay it feels like you are on a nonstop safari! Herding the Elephants was jaw-droppingly amazing and one of my favorite activities next to the lion hunt and watching the lion feed!! This experience has brought me so much. Aside from the extra set of laugh lines (I just couldn't stop smiling), I also learned a lot about myself as a person and for that I am forever grateful.
