What inspired you to travel abroad?

I believe that going abroad is the best way to get experience in Wildlife Conservation, being able to volunteer and help care for animals is what inspired me.

Why did you choose Tiritose

I chose Tiritose because it was a program offered at my University, however, I looked forward to working with Tiritose because I have heard so many people gain positive experiences from their trips.

This is one of the beautiful locations we got to see.

Lake and trees

What was your favorite part about Zimbabwe?

My favorite part of Zimbabwe was the genuinely kind and excited people I met. The environment was friendly, and welcoming.

What made your experience abroad extraordinary?

What made the experience extraordinary was the amazing places that we were taken to. Not to mention all the experience we were able to gain from volunteering with amazing organizations.

How did the local program staff support you throughout Tiritose

Tiritose has very supportive and the people were kind. They will help you with all that they can, and will continue to support you even after the program. Tiritose is a beautiful community that aims to help.

What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?

I wish I could have stayed longer. Everything was perfect and I look forward to visiting again.

Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.

A typical day started early when it came to volunteering with animals. Our first task is to provide the animals with breakfast. The next hours are filled with learning about their behavior and their stories while performing task to help care for the animals. The evening is spent providing dinner or participating in community events. The days tasks and events for the volunteers usually ended by 5 p.m. or 6 p.m.

What did you enjoy doing in your free time abroad?

During our free time abroad, Tiritose would take us on amazing hikes and to the local markets. We visited an art museum in the city of Harare which was beautiful.

What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?

For the first half of our trip, we lived in a volunteer house, while we stayed at a lodge for the second half of our trip. Both locations were absolutely amazing, there was access to the normal accommodations of washing, bathrooms, showers, and food was provided. I think what I liked best was the environment. Everything is set up for you to enjoy the experience.

What is one thing every future participant should know about Tiritose before they begin?

Be aware of what to pack, you should know what type of attire to bring for your volunteering program. However, don't forget that there is more to the experience than just volunteering. You will be going to see new places so also take casual clothes. Be aware of the weather!

Would you recommend Tiritose to others? Why?

Yes! The program is set up for you to have the best experience abroad.

What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?

Definitely the experience you receive from going abroad is the biggest benefit. You will not be able to get that experience from home.

Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?

My time abroad has impacted my life now because it makes me want to travel more, especially back to Zimbabwe. It has also made me realize that there are so many opportunities all over the world.

What does meaningful travel mean to you?

Meaningful travel, to me, is to travel with the purpose of trying new things, and learning about new things.

I love working with different people and learning more about cultural differences and how they affect the world as a whole. Therefore working for my organisation was the best way to learn more about the travel industry and work with people from different cultures.

I have visited Zimbabwe several times, but that was for the sole reason of seeing family members. Those trips helped me to view the beauty of Zimbabwe through the perspective of family. This time, I wanted to combine my love of the medical field and Zimbabwe into one. There has always been a part...
