'Quilla', pronounced 'Kiya', is the Quechuan word for moon—the symbol of a new beginning. Kiya Survivors aims to give just that. Through education, therapy, love, and laughter, we encourage new beginnings for children with disabilities or learning difficulties and living below the poverty line, from vulnerable homes. As a Kiya volunteer, you will have the opportunity to work in an eclectic environment in the coastal village, Mancora, supporting our Peruvian team in make a real difference to people. Our homebase in the Sacred Valley of the Inca has welcomed VISIONS groups for 25 years. You will help Quechua indigenous communities on a lifeblood project: water. We are looking for volunteers and interns with creative teaching ideas, such as playing games, singing, storytelling, acting, etc. The focus should be on developing curiosity about other cultures and experiencing language as a communication tool and part of a culture. You can also organize workshops, such as football matches, arts and crafts, environmental education, and drama. The idea is to connect new language abilities with positive emotions. Our organization provides free English and German lessons for children, teenagers, and adults. Therefore, everybody can participate in our community. We combine language lessons with environmental education, believing it helps the younger generations have better life opportunities. We deliver the Teaching Program with our Kids Explorer Program, a holistic approach focusing on environmental education and the social integration of local kids. On weekdays, you can lead workshops and teach ways to save the environment, and then on weekends, you can take the kids (together with staff members) on fun activities in the rainforest.

Volunteer abroad in Cusco, the enchanting ‘belly button’ of the Inca civilization and the main doorway to Machu Picchu - one of the world’s greatest wonders. With its narrow, cobblestone streets, Inca stonework, and women in ancient dress, you will forget you are living in the 21st century. But the real charm and the challenge come from the orphans with whom you will be working. Globe Aware offers diverse opportunities to volunteer in Cuzco, including working in a home for impoverished children from rural households. Many of these kids come from families who are too poor to care for them. Without this home or "albergue," these children would have no educational opportunities. Other service vacation projects include improvements and maintenance to facilities, such as painting classrooms, creating a garden, or constructing desks and beds. The children attend a public school in Cuzco during the day, but you will have ample opportunities to work directly with them after classes and on weekends. You may also visit a local family to construct a Lorena stove.
