A region accentuated by the colorful robes of Buddhist monks, the vivid greens of rice fields and jungle forests, and the cultural diversity of hill tribe communities—this is the ultimate Southeast Asia semester. Each country offers a unique cultural experience unto itself, and each faces the challenge of reconciling urban expansion and industrialization with indigenous land rights, free movement of nomadic peoples, and equal access to resources. This semester, walk among ancient temples, traverse mountainous jungles, and explore the clear blue water of Thailand’s beaches. You’ll explore tradition, globalization, and human rights against the backdrop of two of Asia’s most complex nations. Immerse yourself in community life through homestays and visits to remote villages. Emerge with your self-awareness and perspective forever altered. 2025: CLOSED Spring 2026: February 25 - May 6 Fall 2026: September 24 - December 4

New Dream of Cambodian Children Organization (NDCCO) is a non-profit organization in Phneachey Village, on the outskirts of Siem Reap. NDCCO was founded in 2014 and was registered as an official NGO in 2018 with the government of Cambodia under number 2197. We provide free education, school meals, and community support to underprivileged children and families from our partner communities. We believe education is a key factor in the fight against poverty and that every child has the unalienable right to access quality basic education. NDCCO has an approach that emphasizes sustainable education. We work with the local village chief to target families in most need, offering them a place at the school. Most jobs in Siem Reap are in the hospitality services; thus, the ability to communicate in English is required to access employment. By providing free English lessons to underprivileged kids, we offer them greater employment opportunities. With the help of volunteers, we deliver lessons five days a week to over 230 kids from 6 to 17 years old.

Be part of a pioneer humanitarian project in the villages of northwest Cambodia. Working in partnership with the Shinta Mani Foundation, we will set up a mobile dental clinic and provide first-time dental care to needy children in a village outside Siem Reap in Northern Cambodia. Outside the clinic, volunteers have the chance to get to know the local village people and take in rural life in the countryside. Volunteers work in the clinic for 6 days. After the clinic, the journey continues with sightseeing of Angkor Wat and the surrounding area.

People and Places supports a range of health initiatives based in and around Siem Reap, and volunteers will be placed on a project according to their particular skills and experience. Opportunities include working in community centers in rural villages where subsistence farmers and fishermen live in communities lacking piped water, sewage systems, and basic healthcare services we would otherwise take for granted. Another placement involves working with the lake doctors who send floating clinics to remote villages in and around Tonle Sap Lake. The following skilled/qualified volunteers will be welcomed in these projects: * Registered doctors, dentists, and nurse practitioners to help the Lake Clinic team * Occupational therapists, speech therapists, and physiotherapists * Nutritionists * Healthcare professionals can help organize and deliver workshops in basic health and hygiene * Drug and alcohol therapists
