Teaching Jobs in India

When you teach English abroad in India, your life will be like no other here: a magical place where rajahs once roamed in palaces made of marble; where early philosophies and religions were born; and where impenetrable cultural deutero truths were developed over thousands of years. India is color, texture, fabrics, and fragrances. It is a place of intense dichotomy, but also a place of great unity. Here, millions of people live together in some of the largest megacities on Earth, within a country that has many incredible and captivating facets.

Volunteer Your Skills in Sikkim

We are seeking volunteers to teach English in remote village schools in Sikkim, a small Indian state renowned for its majestic natural beauty. It is where you can find Kanchenjunga, India’s highest mountain and the world’s third-highest. HELP is a registered British charity with a specific focus on enhancing educational opportunities in impoverished communities in Nepal and the Indian Himalayas. We achieve this by sponsoring young people, donating funds to schools, and placing skilled volunteers within these schools. We are not a travel agency. Our volunteer programme is not just an add-on to a package holiday. If you have no experience or qualifications, we can direct you to relevant online courses that can help you develop your skills. We will also provide you with TEFL materials to help you cope with the first weeks of teaching. However, we cannot provide you with the personal qualities that will enable you to thrive outside your comfort zone. These jobs are challenging, life-enhancing, and best suited to mature people.

A Guide to Teaching Abroad in India

Best Cities

Situated in southwest Asia, the landmass properly known as the Republic of India is surrounded by the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. With a population of well over one billion, India is second only to China as the most populated country in world. With stats like those, you don’t have to worry about finding some stellar locations for teaching English in India.

Goa. This little state in western India on the Arabian sea packs a lot of flavor with its golden-sand beaches, coconut groves, dense forests, Portuguese touches, and tasty treats. Being one of the top tourist destinations in India, and the 6th in top ten nightlife cities in the world, you can bet that your time teaching here will be an unforgettable experience. Ogle at the Portuguese colonial architecture, meditate your heart out, and savor a bhali-pau (bread roll dipped in curry)!

Mumbai. Formerly Bombay, this financial, commercial, and entertainment hub lies in western India. This energetic metropolis is the most populous in India and offers the majority of programs for teaching English in India, ranging from test prep trainers, to volunteers, to fashion lecturers. You’ll find a juxtaposition here of slums and expensive homes, hard-working laborers and millionaires, skyscrapers and tropical forests. As the birthplace of Indian cinema, film lovers will rejoice with the numerous cinema halls and film festivals.

New Delhi. The capital of India is situated in the northern area and pulses with colonial-era parliament buildings, skyscraping offices, and glitzy malls woven into its scenery. Be sure to visit one of its numerous art, history, or science museums, Jantar Mantar observatory, landscaped Buddha Jayanti Park, and the India Gate. While you can find opportunities to teach English abroad in India here, you can also find positions to teach math, science, arts, humanities, and foreign languages.

My TEFL training experience has been truly enriching and transformative. Throughout the course, I gained practical skills, deeper understanding, and greater confidence in planning and delivering effective lessons. A major reason for this positive journey was my trainer, Ashika, whose guidance made a remarkable difference. She was exemplary in every way—highly professional, well-prepared, and deeply committed to our learning. Her teaching style was clear, supportive, and always encouraging. What inspired me most was her patience and her ability to simplify even the most challenging concepts. She consistently provided constructive feedback that helped me identify my strengths and areas for improvement. Because of her motivating approach, I felt comfortable asking questions and trying out new teaching techniques without fear. Ashika’s dedication went beyond routine sessions; she ensured we understood the purpose behind every activity and how to apply it in a real classroom. Her passion for teaching and her positive energy made every session engaging and meaningful. I truly admire her as a role model, and I feel grateful to have learned under her guidance. This TEFL experience has helped me grow both personally and professionally, and Ashika has been a major inspiration throughout the journey.
