SIT Study Abroad: IHP Cities in the 21st Century

Explore urbanization and social justice in New York, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, and Cape Town. UC Irvine Academic Study Abroad Program (ASAP)

Take graduate or undergraduate UC Irvine credit-bearing courses and enjoy an incomparable university experience. Our Academic Study Abroad Program (ASAP) is designed for students enrolled in international university degree programs. It allows you to augment your current studies with three, six, or nine months of academic and cultural opportunities at the University of California, Irvine. You can earn credits that may be transferable to your home universities. ASAP is specifically designed for eligible international university-level students to enhance their educational experience by studying in ASAP for 1, 2, or 3 quarters. While in ASAP, you have the opportunity to enroll full-time alongside matriculated UCI students in credit-bearing UCI courses and UCI Continuing Education courses. While supplementing your home university degree, take advantage of this chance to become immersed in American university culture while living in Irvine, the safest city, as ranked by the FBI for over 20 years. Additional approval and fees are required for enrolling in over 12 units; the maximum number of approved units per quarter is 16 units.

If you are even considering Oaxaca and it falls in your area of interests (or not specifically, but does grab your attention)I would highly recommend! One of the first things you are told is to be open with each other because you will build life long connections, which couldn't be more true. You will experience a great deal of culture and heavy topics that will bond you closer with each other as you all learn how to navigate being abroad, being immersed in immigration, local indigenous communities, and transnational communities in excursions. Outside of classes, you'll have amazing meals with your families and families of you friends, which adds so much to the experience as you meet their families and they let you into their culture. While the topic of immigration is very heavy and a difficult topic to prepare someone who has never witnessed the situations of the borders, the teachers and speakers do a great job of preparing us for what we are going to see and how we may feel. Most importantly, you are not alone in any of the experience while in Oaxaca.
