My time teaching in Thailand was a blessing and I will never forget it. Though I may never go back to Thailand to teacher I am glad I got the opportunity to do so. My accommodation was not the cleanest. There were many ants, spiders, and lizards. The electricity went out twice and came back on after 5 minutes. I did have to switch rooms because there was a loud constant noise above my head for over a week for me to then find out my water heater was broken in my first room. If you can get an apartment or condo, I would definitely suggest that over a hotel for 6 weeks.

The course was overall covered the basics of what a teaching job is like in another country like Thailand however a big factor which is behaviour management was not covered as much which is a very big factor in how well the teaching experience is.

When I left London to live and teach in Chiang Rai I honestly had no idea what to expect, but XploreAsia was there with me every step of the way. The first week was orientation, and it was *wild* in the best way — Muay Thai training, wandering through vibrant local markets, cooking real Thai food with one of our instructor’s moms, plus learning Thai language and even watching a Thai movie. I met so many incredible people that week alone and felt completely immersed from day one. The next three weeks were hands-on training in a local Thai school, and it was intense but in the most rewarding way. When I enrolled in the Explore Asia Programme earlier this year, it had not occurred to my mind that I was making one of the best decisions ever in my career! From the flight that departed OR Tambo International Airport to the green songtaew in the Prachuap Khiri Khan District, it has been and continues to be an adventure. The programme was well-organised, and every topic we covered felt meaningful and full of purpose. Our instructors exuded so much passion and goodwill that one adopts inspiration. I enjoyed the moments in class because of the friendly environment it was, and the little coffee breaks we had. I have made friends through this programme, gained valuable skills, and renewed my motivation to keep learning and growing. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking to grow, meet new people, and make memories.

My first couple of weeks in Thailand were rough. I was sick for four days and missed most of orientation week. It would be difficult for me to evaluate that part of the program. The TESOL course was great. But the homework was challenging in that the wifi at the accommodation was weak unless you were in the lobby. But the Libby was hot and mosquito ridden, so that was very uncomfortable for me. Once the weather cooled down, though, things changed. I started to adjust to Thailand and grew to love it. Xplore Asia was solid in its support. I was frustrated that it was taking too long to get placed, but that worked out as well. I would recommend xplore Asia to someone, but I would really emphasize the overall costs that are not very clear in the beginning. And to be honest, I must say I get the sense that xplore Asia will accept just about anyone into the program. I feel that there were a few teachers that should have been vetted better. Overall, though, I am happy with the program. We will see what guaranteed placement for life means in a few months. I'm not hopeful. I'm too old to get placed in some areas, most areas actually. My time abroad was truly unforgettable. I was able to explore a new culture, meet people from all walks of life, and learn things I never expected to learn about myself. Every day brought something different — from trying local foods to navigating unfamiliar places — and it pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way possible.
