Travel to Cusco is one of our highlight excursions that provides a contrast to Lima and allows us to explore and contemplate the majesty of Machu Picchu, the ancient citadel city of the Inca. Other easily accessible areas of exploration for the program are Paracas and the Ballestas Islands as well as Huacachina and the desert sand dunes. Through partnerships with top universities in Lima a variety of academic topics can be explored and studied. Barranquilla, situated along the Magdalena River and known as the "Golden Gate to Colombia," is a vibrant and cosmopolitan Caribbean port in northern Colombia. The city is home to the Carnaval de Barranquilla, one of the biggest carnivals in the world. UNESCO declared it one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. UTDT's semester-long certificate programs have been designed for students who want to focus on Latin American Studies or Human Rights during their studies in Buenos Aires. These offer courses in both English and Spanish, and students may opt to take the three courses required to obtain these certificates in English, Spanish, or a mixture of both. All courses take a comparative approach to ensure a critical understanding of the issues studied. The Certificate in Latin American Studies explores the most current social, political, linguistic, and cultural developments shaping Latin America. The Certificate in Human Rights in Latin America is from philosophical, historical, cultural, and social viewpoints.
