Spend a semester or academic year in the classic city of Florence with AIFS Abroad. Choose from a wide variety of courses at the AIFS Abroad Global Education Center with credit awarded by Fairfield University. Select the Traditional Academic Program to begin or advance your Italian language skills and select courses from a variety of subjects. During the Spring semester, a Fashion Management and Marketing Program is also available. AIFS Abroad in Florence includes a one-week orientation before the semester begins to help you acclimate to life in Italy. Fall semester orientation is on the coast of Tuscany, while spring semester orientation is in Rome. Live in a shared student apartment and receive a meal plan. Enroll in a sailing course at ACT, and earn academic credit and a license or certificate. The Coastal Sailing Skipper (course and license) teaches you how to operate an open-sea sailboat. Upon successful completion of the theoretical and on-board lessons, you will receive academic credit and an international sailing license that allows you to skipper a boat on your own. The Racing Sailing Certificate, on the other hand, offers a more intense and demanding experience. It involves hours of practice as well as an opportunity to join in the local Sailing Championship of Thessaloniki.

Over the course of six weeks, the coastal capital city of Rabat, Morocco, will be home to students of the APA Rabat: The Contemporary Maghreb summer program. Dive into this rich civilization at the crossroads of African, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, and European influences! All students follow two courses: 1. Modern Standard Arabic language according to level (beginner, intermediate, advanced) 2. One elective, taught in English: - History of Colonial and Postcolonial North Africa - Language, Identity, and the Politics of Memory in Contemporary Morocco - Gender and Sexuality in North Africa - Social Movements in the Maghreb - Political Islam Each course is four credit hours. In addition to the Arabic course, students meet weekly with the instructor individually to work on various aspects of oral and written expression and comprehension. A weekly darija lesson (Moroccan dialect) provides useful vocabulary heard in markets, restaurants, and shops. Cultural site visits and events and full board homestay housing are included. Students may choose to extend their stay by two weeks to volunteer with an NGO.

GVI’s teams work closely with our local partners to contribute to vital community development projects. Groups get to participate in this interdisciplinary course, accredited by universities and colleges around the world. We introduce students to international service-learning and sustainable development, both in theory and practice. Two weeks prior to departure and two weeks after returning home, students engage in lectures, discussion, research, service, and reflection at home and abroad. Emphasis will be placed on relating long-term goals with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and engaging in daily reflection surrounding the experience, led by qualified group facilitators, furthering individual educational development. This course curriculum is tailored to students' academic level or curriculum. The aim of our Service Learning course is to empower students to gain confidence in their knowledge and practical experience of their subject area.
