I had the best time in Maastricht!
November 29, 2025by: Caroline Kindsvater - United StatesProgram: Science & Health in Europe
I studied abroad Spring 2024 in Maastricht, Netherlands. And I really did have the time of my life. Studying in Maastricht, I was very challenged with academics. UM’s problem based learning strategy encourages students to lead class discussions, take an active role in choosing what to focus on, and collaborate with other students. Maastricht’s location in the heart of Europe allowed me to travel to other European countries by train with ease, making weekend travel easy. CES’s group trips and orientation helped me make friends immediately, whom I cooked dinner with, traveled with, and studied with, and who I still keep up with. If you have one choice - study abroad at Maastricht through CES!!!
Best decision ever!!
March 15, 2025by: Hope Barrett - United StatesProgram: Science & Health in Europe
I had such a good experience in the Public Health and Medicine in Europe program at Maastricht. I mainly took psychology and genetics courses (plus a lab), and I really enjoyed how these classes were taught, especially at UCM. Through the pbl-style learning, I developed better independent study skills and was able to learn and engage with the content rather than memorize it for a test. One of my favorite parts of this program was also how I was able to learn with local students at UCM. Through group projects and our in-class discussions, I made some really good friends who not only helped me with my initial adjustment to the pbl-style, but also showed me around local spots in Maastricht. Additionally, the Berlin, Paris, and Dutch Day trips were so fun and culturally enriching. They had the perfect amount of structure and a good agenda while still offering a lot of free time and recommendations to explore the cities on your own with friends. Maastricht was the cutest city with such fun things to do, such as the market every Friday, and had some really good cafes/food places and bars. It was easy and affordable to travel from and filled with such kind people. I came back with such good lifetime friends, and miss Maastricht (and biking) every day.

Amazing Program
July 02, 2024by: Evan Velline - United StatesProgram: CEA CAPA Education Abroad in Amsterdam, Netherlands
I had a great time during my semester in Amsterdam. The CEA CAPA team is really responsive and the on site team was super knowledgeable. Our living situation in Diemen was also very nice and was located close to many bike paths and public transit.

The Time of My Life
January 19, 2024by: Melisa Vukovic - United StatesProgram: CEA CAPA Education Abroad in Amsterdam, Netherlands
My time in Amsterdam, Netherlands was some of the best few weeks of my life. The professors I had were so helpful and intelligent, along with the fact I had classmates from all over the world who were so insightful. CEA was there for me at every step of the way, even in my host country. They prioritized immersing their students and ensuring their safety. Any cultural, educational, or living question we had CEA was ready to answer, and guide us. I met the most amazing people through my program and am very lucky to call them some of my closest friends to this day. I am from New Jersey and actually went to visit them in California for a weekend in October! Thank you CEA for the time of my life!
Hi Melisa! Thanks for sharing your amazing feedback about your summer in Amsterdam! So glad you met new lifelong friends and made incredible memories with CEA CAPA.
I had a CEStastic time
April 19, 2023by: Evan Stover - United StatesProgram: Science & Health in Europe
The pulic health program in Maastricht is very well organized and very educational. CES does an amazing job coordinating appropriate material and activities to enhance your learning experience in your program. The CES staff is amazing. They offer you with complete support and help guide you efficiently through any issues you may have while abroad. They make it truly feel like a comfortable and supportive community. My study abroad experience was transformative. I learned more about myself than I thought possible and grew tremendously as an individual through traveling and experiencing different cultures.

Maastricht is the best!!
April 19, 2023by: Leah Noble - United StatesProgram: Science & Health in Europe
The Public Health program at CES has fast-tracked my courses at my home university. I am able to study within my major in high detail and talk about international perspectives with those who know it best. The CES staff have been so supportive and helpful throughout the entire program! They are always there to advise, guide, and even talk about anything that’s on your mind. My study abroad experience has been nothing short of a life changer. I have been able to see the world, talk to new people, and experience personal growth and independence.

Great class support
January 02, 2023by: Alexia K.Program: CIEE Social Science + Humanities in Amsterdam, Netherlands
I would recommend CIEE Study Abroad to a friend or peer because the entire staff was extremely helpful and accommodating to any issues or concerns I had. Also, since classes from UvA and their different structures were hard for me to adjust to, CIEE offered amazing classes with a structure I'm more familiar with and one that was more effective for my learning style. CIEE was also a very helpful resource when I was struggling with test taking at UvA and the lack of academic accommodations they were able to offer, as they differed a lot from what I am used to at my home university.
Such a great experience that I decided to stay :)
February 11, 2022by: Lindsey Campbell - United StatesProgram: Science & Health in Europe
Maastricht is the perfect location to study abroad in. So many destinations are accessible by bus/train and there are multiple options for airports to fly out of. Because Maastricht is a smaller, student-centered city, it doesn’t take long to feel at home there! The problem-based learning (PBL) method used at Maastricht University involves fewer hours in class, which allows for a more flexible travel schedule. Student-directed discussions foster more curiosity than traditional lectures, and explaining concepts to my classmates ensures my own understanding and retention. I was only supposed to be abroad for one semester, but I decided to extend my time and finish my degree here. I am also strongly considering graduate programs in the US that use PBL.

I loved the program
December 16, 2019by: Lizzy S. - United StatesProgram: CIEE Social Science + Humanities in Amsterdam, Netherlands
I loved how the program minimized our logistical problems and provided many opportunities. The orientation made it easy to make friends and find community. The ALAs and weekend trips allowed all of us to have the chance to see sights and travel in ways we wouldn't have done on our own. I never felt alone or stressed in finding help or making decisions, whether it be about finding a bike or making a doctor's appointment.
Truly an unforgettable experience
December 16, 2019by: Ho Long Charles L.The past four months have truly been an unforgettable experience. CIEE provided us with many exciting and interesting experiences and I can truly say that the Netherlands is my favorite country in Europe. I would not choose to study in any other city, because Amsterdam truly has it all. Moreover, the University of Amsterdam offered a rigorous curriculum that is comparable to that of other world-class institutions in the world. Early doubts regarding the study abroad semester faded very quickly and those thoughts were met with curiosity and excitement.
It is a good program
December 15, 2019by: Arlenys R. - United StatesProgram: CIEE Social Science + Humanities in Amsterdam, Netherlands
It is a good program with lots of building activities to learn the culture and get accustomed to the academics. The staff is helpful in this process. There is a little bit for everyone and CIEE is organized with that. I did enjoy the activities I attended but still found it difficult to stay connected with various people in the program whether it be students or some faculty.

They are so helpful and friendly; they made my trip better than I could have imagined. I will never forget their kindness.

They have an excellent assortment of planned activities. Their partnership with ISN and offer of a discounted Museumkaart also helped me make the most of my time here. The staff were all engaged and willing to answer my questions.

I really liked CIEE a lot however I wish they took us into other countries for our excursions, not necessarily just within the Netherlands. Also I am paying full tuition I feel like I should have been given some food spend.
