An Immersive Journey into Italian Culture

Italy's language is a gateway—and this program gives you the full picture behind it. The Academic Foundation Year: An Immersive Journey into Italian Culture at IED's Accademia di Como is a structured, full-year course that goes well beyond standard language instruction. It combines intensive Italian language learning with preparatory cultural studies and experiential learning across design, fashion, art, and restoration—fields where Italy sets the global standard. This program offers more Italian language and culture teaching hours than other Foundation Year courses at Accademia di Como, making it the most language-intensive pathway available.

The curriculum is built around three integrated dimensions. Language modules—taught in Italian—lead to certified B1 and B2 exams in June, issued by Centro Studi Italiani. Cultural studies are delivered in English. Experiential learning takes the form of workshops, project-based labs, site visits, coaching sessions, and special lectures. Students must attend at least 80% of lessons to sit final exams. Tutoring and language support are available throughout.
