IED's Master's Degree in Interior Design: Hacking Tradition—Reinventing Craftsmanship and Materials redefines the relationship between designers and their surroundings through mindful, context-rooted design. It challenges traditional knowledge and finds new applications for materials and natural resources within local contexts. At its core is DesignXCommons—an ecological design approach centered on integrating common goods and regenerating the planet.

Rooted in Tuscany's renowned manufacturing sector, students work directly within these open, collaborative production hubs to experiment, develop, and prototype ideas using sustainable materials. The curriculum combines advanced knowledge of materials, product life cycles, and market strategies with hands-on experience through workshops, field trips, and studio visits. Students learn to interpret social, economic, and cultural contexts — transforming them into meaningful projects.

Graduates earn a Diploma Accademico di Secondo Livello (MA, EQF Level 7) with 120 ECTS credits, preparing them for careers in Interior Design, Furniture Design, Sustainable Industrial Design, Collectible Design, and Luxury Design.
