Master in Social Ecological Design - Turin

The Master's in Social Ecological Design: Regenerative Practices for Everyday Life at IED is a 16-month, 80 ECTS experimental program grounded in socio-ecological relationships and real-world practice. Set across Turin, Tuscany, Sicily, and the Alps, it responds directly to today's interconnected crises — climate change, biodiversity loss, social inequality, and the rise of AI culture — with a curriculum that moves between critical theory, fieldwork, and hands-on design.

Students build skills across biomimicry, multispecies thinking, systems analysis, cultural ethnography, creative activism, and inclusive design. The program unfolds in three trimesters: foundations in Turin, fieldwork across Italy's diverse landscapes, and independent professional practice capped by an internship and thesis. Each student has a dedicated mentor throughout. A Scientific Committee of five specialists—spanning theory, design ecology, social practice, and process design—shapes the program's academic rigor.

Guided by the DesignXCommons framework, graduates leave equipped to work with communities, ecosystems, and institutions driving meaningful regenerative change.
