Best experience of my life
by: Haley Parker - United StatesProgram: Wildlife Photography & Conservation ProgramThis program will change your life! - I can't stress this enough. Every day was a different adventure. I met people from all across the globe who opened my eyes to so many extraordinary perspectives. From sleeping within hearing distance to lions, to swimming with sharks, to walking with elephants... from having my coffee order memorized day TWO by the sweetest barista at the most charming coffee shop I've ever set foot in, to breathtaking views of the unbelievable landscapes.. swimming in the ocean at sunrise post-yoga, capturing NatGeo-esque photos of baby monkeys grasping onto their mothers' backs and so many more unique and gorgeous moments.. I will remember the month spent in South Africa as the moth that changed my life forever. Being the first solo abroad trip I've taken, I went into it nervous of course, but I couldn't be more happy that I did. Not exaggerating, I think about it pretty much every day and dream about going back as soon as I can. Fiona and Annie were unbelievably hospitable, genuine, caring, and thorough in their demonstrations and explanations. They made sure everyone felt welcome and that we all had personalized lessons based on our experience levels. A month of laughs and visual wonders; a lifetime of memories and inspiration.
Experience of a lifetime

Gave me the tools and support to be confident having a camera in the water
by: Andrew Maloney - United StatesProgram: Underwater Photography ProgramI did the underwater Photography internship program for the month of September a few years back. I didn't really know what to expect other that I'd seen some surreal photos of reefs and groups of divers. I was pretty new to diving and to be honest was a bit nervous going by myself to this program when I wasn't even a slightly experienced diver at the time. After the first few days of arriving in Mozambique, it felt like I was part of a family there. Every person running the dive center, doing the program were all from around the globe and so kind to one another. The instructors I had turned into friends that were supporting your development in whatever activity you are pursuing. The lodging is a 2 minute walk up the hill from the dive center, it's pretty tight knit. I don't have a single regrettable memory from my time there - except this one time four of us tried walking out on the reef to go snorkling and we all wiped out. So if you want to go snorkling on your free time just take the beach and swim out and around or better yet listen to the instructors! I did a few courses during my time in Guinjata Bay. I was able to complete my PADI advanced diving course, PADI digital underwater photography course, and a breath apnea course which, as a surfer, I found the techniques to be incredibly applicable. One of the most important tasks I learned during my time was maintaining the water housings. You learn every aspect of these professional grade water housings and strobes, how to set them up, how to break them down and clean them properly to last. After the program I ended up buying a water housing for my dslr mainly for surf photography here in NY. I can say easily that had it not been for the program in Guinjata that I would not have been nearly as confident bringing my $1700 dslr camera and lens into breaking ocean waves, let alone still have that same housing in near new condition 5 years later. I highly recommend this program if you're looking to advance your photography in all aspects, become a more confident diver, or to pursue any type of ocean photography.

I love wildlife documentaries and particularly David Attenborough programs. My dream is to become a documentary filmmaker and work for the BBC. I found the Africa Media program online, and it was the the best, as I wanted to film cool wildlife like lions and elephants, rather than foxes and badgers. That the program was based in South Africa, worked on free range wildlife reserves, and the past films from their students showed me this was a real professional program where I could learn more about becoming a wildlife filmmaker.

What inspired you to travel abroad?
I’ve always been passionate about nature and travel. As a journalist, I continuously look for ways to incorporate these interests into my career. Africa Media granted me the opportunity to do exactly that and more. It’s a media company focused on telling the story of wild Africa, educating others on how to build a career in the field of wildlife media and conservation. I wanted to become part of that journey. The members of the Africa Media team are more like family than colleagues, and they’re all driven by the same love for Africa and its wildlife.
