Language Programs in Italy

Go ahead and say, “that’s a spicy meatball” in an Italian accent… and try not using your hands. Impossible, right?! The phrase and that false accent are both silly, but the gestures are the real deal. A large part of Italian culture is speaking with your hands, something you might miss out on when taking Italian in a classroom back home. Italy language schools, on the other hand (pun intended), will contribute those cultural elements to what could otherwise be a humdrum experience.

A Guide to Language Study Abroad in Italy

Best Cities

All roads lead to Rome… and maybe to a few other cities we think you’ll love for finding intensive language programs in Italy, as well.

Bologna. Not pronounced like the lunch meat, this charming northern Italian city houses one of the most prestigious universities in Europe, not to mention the absolute oldest. Buzzing with student life, Italy language schools in this city are sure to engage your language skills and sharpen your ear. This is also the birthplace of Spaghetti Bolognese… buon appetito!

Milan. Italy’s fashion and design epicenter, this cosmopolitan city is sure to dazzle you. The joy of taking language courses in Italy while in this city is that you’ll absorb the pizzazz of Milan much more fully. See an opera at Teatro alla Scala and understand what they’re singing (imagine that!) or visit Da Vinci’s Last Supper.

Rome. You cannot escape the enchanting history of this city (and why would you want to?). If you’re looking to be inundated with Italian culture—we’re talking the B.C.E kind—then you cannot top language learning abroad in Italy to experience it all.

A fantastic language course!

February 17, 2025by: Dagna Wierzbicka - PolandProgram: Italian Intensive Course

A fantastic language course, excellent quality of the lessons. Professor Erica, with whom I had the pleasure of attending the classes, was wonderful – very professional, with great class and a sense of humor. If I could, I would definitely repeat the course next year! At the school, thanks to the wonderful Erica, and also thanks to the whole team – Mario, Valentina, and others – I really felt at home. The visits to the bar together were a pleasure. I still remember one of our lessons, when Erica and I listened to a fragment of the song Caruso – it was an unforgettable moment. If you're looking for a language school where, in addition to learning the language, you can also discover the culture of the beautiful country that is Italy, I highly recommend Academia Leonardo. Erica and all the staff – siete bravissimi!!!!
