This internship was an amazing opportunity
July 30, 2026by: Kiara Di MauroProgram: Affordable Internships in Italy | Where Culture Meets Career
I really enjoyed my experience. This internship was an amazing opportunity to learn more about my field from professionals with far more experience. It allowed me to develop my skills, gain valuable knowledge, and build confidence in a real-world setting. I highly recommend this internship to anyone interested in expanding their knowledge and gaining hands-on experience in the field. Any questions I had were answered within 24 hours, which I really appreciated.
Lucky with my placement
July 27, 2026by: Emelia Roy - United StatesAfter being ghosted multiple times by the employer I was originally matched with, I was placed with C.R.E.T.A Rome, a ceramics studio and artist residency studio. I am a graphic design major and was tasked with designing two catalogues for the upcoming shows of one of the studio's owners, a magnificent ceramicist. I worked in person 20 hours a week and 10-15 hours remote per week and this has been a very rewarding experience. The placement was perfect and I'm very grateful.
My internship was incredibly rewarding
July 24, 2026by: Alyssa SantosProgram: Affordable Internships in Italy | Where Culture Meets Career
My internship was incredibly rewarding, both personally and professionally. What I enjoyed most was learning in a small, close-knit environment, which gave me a very real perspective on what running a design business looks like. I had the chance to strengthen my AutoCAD skills, improve my efficiency and learn to embrace feedback and iteration without over-attaching to early versions. I also grew personally, building relationships and gaining confidence working in Italian. This experience confirmed my passion for interior design and architecture. If I could give one piece of advice to someone, it would be: trust the process, don't give up and enjoy every chance to learn. I'm incredibly grateful to my placement and everyone who supported me throughout this journey. Sarah was my Program Manager throughout the internship preparation. She was always available and answered my calls and emails very quickly, with clear and helpful feedback and advice.
Changed my life for the better
October 07, 2025by: Suzanne Piper - United StatesProgram: AIFS Abroad in Rome, Italy: Summer Study + Internship
My internship in Rome was not only a goal of mine achieved, but it also exceeded all expectations. I genuinely wish I could do it all over again, but without changing anything—maybe just eat more gelato. AIFS guided me to a company that published a travel magazine, something I've always wanted to do. On the first day meeting my boss, I knew I was in the right place. The best part was that I only had to prepare a resume, a cover letter, and complete an interview. The internship was guaranteed, so I didn't have the stress of applying and interviewing at ten different places. I am extremely grateful to AIFS and my time in Rome. The program staff was accommodating and made life less stressful than, let’s face it, it should have been. I would recommend anyone look into AIFS, as it will change your life.
I feel fulfilled
August 17, 2025by: Caroline SurridgeProgram: Affordable Internships in Italy | Where Culture Meets Career
What I enjoyed the most was the overall abroad experience and the safe chance I got to explore a foreign country. I really liked the segment at the beginning with Italian lessons and think that made my experience a thousand times better. I feel fulfilled after having lived alone abroad for a few months and having started learning a new language.
Great Way to Practice Your Spanish
September 30, 2024by: Corey G.It was a great experience, however I do think it is geared towards people with little to no work experience and did not meet all my expectations of learning something new in a new work environment. The best part was being able to practice my Spanish with my host family.
Great Internship
September 23, 2024by: Birdie B.CIEE provided me with a great internship site, a clean and nice apartment in a good neighborhood, and gave me roommates who shared similar interests. The staff was extremely kind and helped me whenever I needed, and were good about checking in with me about my experiences
Quite good, internship could have been better
September 01, 2023by: Alex Rapp - United StatesI loved the culture immersion, activities, staff and safety. My only concern was the internship I had did not place me with someone in my field so they did not fully know how to assist me through out the experience.
Good Experience
September 01, 2023by: Ghazal Torkaman - CanadaMy experience was good. I met some life long friends and made memories to last me forever, however, I wish there was more transparency when it came to our internship placements and wish we had more to choose from than just the one position given. That being said, our coordinator, Lucy, was so kind and helpful throughout the 8 weeks and planned some great events for us. She also took some amazing photos of all the interns at the end of our program, and I will definitely be using mine professionally. I absolutely love that she offered us that! Cheers :)
My internship in Italy gave me a lot of 'firsts' for my life.
August 21, 2023by: Haya BinladenProgram: Affordable Internships in Italy | Where Culture Meets Career
My internship in Italy gave me a lot of “firsts” for my life, and it enabled me to meet a great range of people from different walks of life. The entire experience has without a doubt increased by personal and professional development, improving my skills and knowledge and helping me pave a way forward for my own career. It enabled me to stay in one of my favorite cities in the world - whilst picking up the language, making friends, and embracing a new culture. I would do it all again if I could! The 3-week Italian classes at the start of the internship were one of my highlights from the experience in Rome. Being able to settle in with a nice routine that included language learning and meeting new people from the start, was such a fun way to enter the culture. The language school is incredible in their teaching mechanism. It was a great environment with great teachers!
My internship allowed me to engage with local culture and language.
August 12, 2023by: Paige KrugerProgram: Affordable Internships in Italy | Where Culture Meets Career
My internship allowed me to engage with local culture and language. I loved exploring the country and spending time with locals, doing things I normally wouldn't do. I now know that a career in the arts is something I want to do. I have new goals that I want to meet in the future that I did not have before my internship. Overall my experience was positive; I loved Rome, I loved the people I got to meet at both my accommodation and at the school, and I enjoyed that I got to connect with professionals in a field I want to pursue.
A great learning experience!
August 10, 2023by: Alyssa Titone - United StatesI personally had a great experience with GE. I was very satisfied with my internship placement except for the fact that my commute was over an hour, which I was told would not happen. However, my employer was very nice about me having a hybrid schedule. Access to health care was pretty good, but I did have to pay out of pocket and have yet to receive my money back. The program advisors were helpful but also could communicate better. Lucy Boscan was my location coordinator and was amazing. She always tried her best to help, and also did weekly check-ins with all of her interns.
Summer in Rome
August 09, 2023by: Ryanna Woolf - United StatesBeing in Rome this summer with AIFS was a great opportunity. The living placement was wonderful and same with the girls that I lived with. I felt that the 2 week mandatory Italian course was not as helpful as I had hoped it would be just because we learned more grammar and conjugations as opposed to basic phrases and material that would be useful during our time in Italy. The organization of the internships was very helpful but the internships themselves seemed to be less organized. The freedom of being in a foreign country and having the ability to immerse myself into a new culture has been one of the biggest steps into my independence as an adult.
Good two month abroad experience
August 03, 2023by: Cierra Nugent - CanadaI enjoyed my internship abroad. I worked at a refugee centre from 9-1 every day and It was really interesting to hear the stories of the people coming into the center. Furthermore with the center closing at 1 everyday I had time to go and explore the city and truly envy Rome.
Interning abroad was an amazing experience
August 03, 2023by: Orea Plloci - AlbaniaI loved interning abroad at my host company, speaking the Italian language, getting to be a long-term tourist, getting to know my beighbours in Prati, involving myself in extracurricular activities, and just living in Rome overall.
The staff and program as a whole was a worthwhile opportunity
December 12, 2022by: Miles G.I think there's problems here and there with cleanliness of dorms and location choices, but overall I had a very positive experience. The staff and program as a whole I felt was a very worthwhile opportunity.
My biggest piece of advice would be to keep an open mind and be willing to be adaptable
September 21, 2022by: Kiersten LugerProgram: Affordable Internships in Italy | Where Culture Meets Career
I chose to intern in Italy because I wanted to live in another country, learn more about and experience another culture, and learn Italian. I learned a lot through this internship. I would say the most important skill I learned is how to better communicate with people. Until this internship, I had never really thought about how difficult it might be to communicate with others who do not speak the same language as you. Most people in the United States either speak English or Spanish, and I speak both of those. This internship has taught me how to use my resources, such as hand gestures, charades, pointing at objects, and Google Translate to effectively communicate. I had to communicate with people from across the world in a mix of languages and hand gestures to ascertain their needs, such as clothes, hygiene products, and more, and do my best to provide what we could. My biggest piece of advice would be to keep an open mind and be willing to be adaptable. Showing that you are trying and want to learn about the different cultures shows respect, and often in turn others will respect you more and have more patience with you while trying to communicate.
Amazing
September 05, 2022by: Brooklyn CarletonProgram: Affordable Internships in Italy | Where Culture Meets Career
Although I am still so young, my Sustainable Tourism internship in Italy has been amazing in helping me see what the corporate world is all about! My internship placement was with a tour operator and hotel. My tasks included updating websites, understanding hotel procedures and helping with general tasks in a tourism company. I love tourism and am considering a career within this field in future. This internship has been great in not only figuring out who I am, but my interests and passions. I feel empowered to start school again and really get stuck into the tourism sector. A lot of people said that I wouldn't have the motivation to go back to school after taking some time out abroad, but after my internship experience I feel more motivation than ever. I have new goals because of this program and I know that I will have the resources to attain them. Traveling the world gives you a much better perspective of everything and I can't wait to do more and fit that into my career wherever possible.
My whole architecture & design internship experience was amazing
September 03, 2022by: Mone SmitProgram: Affordable Internships in Italy | Where Culture Meets Career
My whole Architecture & Design internship experience was amazing. I honestly can not pick a single memory to be my favorite. I learned so much about the culture, people, language, and the essence of Italy! I had the privilege to work with a company that had amazing and friendly employees. Everyone was very mature in stating their opinions and listening to what others had to say. Everyone in the company had the same goal of finishing a beautiful project which only encouraged me to do my absolute best! During my internship I worked on a lot of the presentations, did a lot of product research, and spent time on residential design. The company I worked for ensured everyone worked across all projects, which encouraged many design ideas. I helped and learned a lot from the company in terms of how they work, how they present to clients and why they use the methods they do. Coming away from the experience I have definitely learned more about how an office environment works. My placement has been great and learning to work under pressure and finish projects in tight deadlines is a skill I will always use.
