Restaurant Work (Tourism) Internships

Institute for Global Studies students have apprenticed with award-winning chefs and worked in a café that specializes in weekend brunches and award-winning pastries. In Auckland, an IGS student wanted to learn barista skills and was trained in that service. Baristas are often the first face a customer sees in a restaurant. It takes competence to earn a manager's trust to be the face of the restaurant. The IGS student got that trust and earned accolades. Working alongside a chef and restaurant staff provides insight into both the business and local culture. These restaurants are frequented by regulars, making weekends quite an experience. IGS works with students who desire to go into the restaurant industry and those who want to try something different. This Restaurant Work internship is a perfect way to meet locals and observe a community from the inside out.

API: Experience Buenos Aires, Argentina (with Scholarships)

Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina and is located on the shore of the Río de la Plata. It is one of Latin America's most important ports and populous cities. This grand city with wide avenues and a vibrant cosmopolitan flair is seen as more European than Latin American. Its energy and bustle are most evident in the city's center, an epicenter of entertainment, shopping, and café culture. It is built on the original colonial foundations of the Spanish people. This center serves as the location for many and most financial institutions and corporate headquarters. New for Spring 2024: Come study in Argentina's vibrant and exciting capital city, Buenos Aires! Students will enroll in coursework at Universidad de Belgrano, with a concentration on Spanish language and Latin American studies. This program is especially good for Spanish minors and majors, as most courses offered are the building blocks of those degrees. Enjoy excursions to Tigre, La Plata, and Estancia!

Amazing Internship Abroad

September 30, 2025by: Alexis McIff - United StatesProgram: International Internship Programs by Mente Argentina

I loved my experience with Mente Argentina! I am in my mid-twenties and recently graduated from college in the US, and Mente helped me set up a prestigious internship in Buenos Aires. I was able to gain valuable work experience and also begin learning Spanish. While in the program, I met some wonderful people that I have kept in touch with for a year now after coming home. It was great to have the Mente program to help me arrange housing and have people to help me navigate moving to a new city and country. Everyone was so nice, and Mente was flexible with what would work best for me. I was also able to have experiences in Buenos Aires that were both authentic to Argentina while also doing many tourist activities through the events that Mente planned each week. I spent 4 months with the Mente Argentina program, and in reality, after 2 months I felt like I could have been on my own. I did the homestay, which was really great, but I didn't know beforehand that I wouldn't be able to use the oven or stove there, so I had to eat out for every meal or have no-cook foods. Overall, I would highly recommend participating in the Mente Argentina program if you are looking for a unique international adventure while still having the safety of a program who knows where you are and can help with anything you need.
