Choose this program if you are a highly motivated student with a minimum of two and one half years of college-level Spanish and a particular interest in cultural, economic, and social issues relevant to contemporary Spain and its capital, Madrid.

Semester at Sea's worldwide itineraries offer rigorous coursework coupled with field assignments, service learning in 8-12 international destinations, and the skills necessary to compete in today's rapidly globalizing world. Credit earned is fully transferable by the University of Virginia.

As for Barcelona as a study-abroad destination, it has become and continues to become increasingly popular, for good reason. You probably know that it is one of Europe's larger cities right on the Mediterranean Sea in the Northeast corner of Spain about 100 miles south of the border with France.

Students can choose from six different study abroad options in Spain offered by the American Institute of Foreign Studies (AIFS), located in Granada, Barcelona, and Salamanca. The AIFS offers courses across many disciplines, including multiple Languages, Literature, and Art History. Programs are available in all semesters.

We want to invite you to participate in the Spanish Language Summer School! Our course intends you to learn Spanish language combining formal and non formal education. You will study with a native teacher 20 lessons per week and in the free time you can go to the beach, join workshops and other activities that we have prepared for you.
