Women's Studies Study Abroad Programs in Florence, Italy

Spend the spring semester in the classic city of Florence with AIFS. You’ll earn up to 16 credits through a variety of courses studying at Richmond, the American International University. Courses are taught in English or Italian, and no previous Italian language study is required. This program combines Florence’s long history in the field of fashion and luxury goods and specialized coursework to give students interested in a career in fashion a unique academic experience. They take a 3-credit language course, plus four mandatory fashion-related courses. Another credit is available by taking the optional Introduction to Italian Art course. AIFS in Florence includes a one-week orientation in Rome before the semester begins so students can acclimate themselves to the Italian language and culture. Live in a homestay or a shared student apartment located in different neighborhoods of the city center. Immerse yourself in Italian language and culture with a homestay. An optional meal plan is available and internet access is included in all housing. You’ll enjoy cultural and social activities such as guided city walks, visits to the many museums, churches and cultural sites of Florence.

Interdisciplinary courses based on experiential learning at NECAFlorence are designed to stimulate students’ interests and to challenge their way of thinking. Small group courses assure a high level of individual attention. Highly-qualified teaching staff. Throughout your stay, you will gain an intimate understanding of Italian and Florentine culture and life. Students must be over the age of 18 to join. The NECA Scholarship Program has been developed to assist highly motivated students (enrolled in 2-year or 4-year institutions) and adults with academic merit and/or who do not have enough financial resources.
