Peru - English Teaching Experience

Peru is an incredible country; it’s filled with history, traditions, art, culture, geography, scenery, and more. Unfortunately, Peru’s educational system is not up to those same standards, thus students are not truly given a real opportunity to become proficient in English. Luckily, you have the chance to change this. In this program, you will be able to teach Peruvian students basic English such as reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar. Volunteers’ responsibilities may include creating fun lesson plans, preparing materials for class, assisting students with chapters in books and observing other volunteers or teachers.

Study Spanish & Volunteer in Pimentel/Chiclayo, Peru

The National Registration Center for Study Abroad offers a Spanish language study and construction volunteering program in Peru. Volunteers spend 2 weeks (or longer) in group Spanish classes to learn the four basic language skills: oral and written comprehension, grammar, and listening. English will not be used during the classes that run for about 55 minutes per day and 20 hours per week. Students may enroll in as many weeks as desired. When they have a firmer grasp of Spanish, participants will join Un Techo Para mi Pais, an organization run by university students and operated by volunteers who build and reconstruct low-income housing.

Make an impact while learning

While the trip had a few minor setbacks, I thought the trip overall was a great success! Many parts of this trip I will remember for the rest of my life. The best part of this trip is the time spent at the Casa de las Idiomas with the kids. Not only is it fun, it is also extremely rewarding to see these kids have even more fun while learning. Is it a great way to see how most of the families in these communities actually live compared to what tourists usually see by only going to Lima and Cusco. Another great part of this trip is the freedom to roam around Pimentel and the liberty the organizational staff gives you, which lets you truly interact with the local people and learn even more than just by doing touristic visits. Overall, I strongly recommend this trip as it is a great way to give back while learning first-hand a new and fascinating culture!
