Known as the "Versailles of Morocco," Meknes is home to a beautiful blend of the Arab, Berber, and French cultures that comprise modern Morocco. The city's diverse and distinct districts, such as bustling Ville Nouvelle, labyrinthine Medina, and relaxing plazas and green spaces, are the epitome of the traditional Moroccan lifestyle. We provide opportunities to serve in Meknes all year round through local NGOs, including women’s empowerment programs, at-risk youth homes, and therapy centers. Throughout your program, you will create a portfolio of assignments and activities, including individual reflective essays, logs of hours, weekly journals, and group discussions. Through service at a local organization and guided reflection activities, our goal is to help you gain a better understanding of the local language, culture, and community. You can volunteer or intern at a childcare facility in Tangier, Morocco. Some facilities are nonprofit and cater to socially disadvantaged children, while others are private kindergartens of high standards. Around 20 single mothers and their toddlers live at the Sisters of Calcutta Kindergarten and Home. Approximately 10 more single mothers bring their children daily from 8 AM to 4 PM. Volunteers interact with the children, mothers, and street children. DARNA operates an open house for children and adolescents in the Kasbah of Tangier. Volunteers assist in the facility's library and interact with the children and adolescents. You can combine activities with tasks in the five other centers run by DARNA in Tangier. At the private French/speaking kindergarten "Le Manège," children aged 3 months to 3 years are introduced to the French language. Teachers foster their independence, socialization, and creative development through play. The children also celebrate and prepare for celebrations of French and Moroccan cultures, such as Christmas and Aid-Al-Fitr. Internships are possible for you at Le Manege if you are considering a career in childcare.

Volunteers on the Teaching Languages project are placed in community centres that offer free or low-cost language classes to local residents. Depending on the placement, you may teach children, teenagers, or adults. Volunteers support the centres by leading intensive language lessons, offering tutoring for school exams, assisting with homework, and creating fun, educational games and activities. Often, volunteers co-teach with another international volunteer, providing a collaborative learning experience. Volunteers are placed in centers that provide free or low cost language classes to the local community from different social backgrounds. Volunteers work 5 days per week and 4 hours at least per day.
