Program Overview
You can volunteer or intern at a childcare facility in Tangier, Morocco. Some facilities are nonprofit and cater to socially disadvantaged children, while others are private kindergartens of high standards.
Around 20 single mothers and their toddlers live at the Sisters of Calcutta Kindergarten and Home. Approximately 10 more single mothers bring their children daily from 8 AM to 4 PM. Volunteers interact with the children, mothers, and street children.
DARNA operates an open house for children and adolescents in the Kasbah of Tangier. Volunteers assist in the facility's library and interact with the children and adolescents. You can combine activities with tasks in the five other centers run by DARNA in Tangier.
At the private French/speaking kindergarten "Le Manège," children aged 3 months to 3 years are introduced to the French language. Teachers foster their independence, socialization, and creative development through play. The children also celebrate and prepare for celebrations of French and Moroccan cultures, such as Christmas and Eid al-Fitr.
Internships are possible for you at Le Manege if you are considering a career in childcare.
