Absolutely recommend IVHQ for volunteer experiences
April 09, 2026by: Jayne Fitch - AustraliaProgram: Volunteer in Healthcare in India
I recently completed a medical program experience in Faridabad (Delhi) with IVHQ. I would absolutely use them again for any future volunteering I may do and certainly recommend them to anyone else thinking about trying volunteering. The experience with IVHQ was excellent from the very beginning. Easy to use website. Clear information. Fair pricing. The preparation checklist left no room for errors and created a sense of confidence in the program and process before leaving home. There was clear support before leaving, while away and follow up when arriving home. It makes you feel that IVHQ genuinely care about your experience which is a great thing. We were well looked after in our home stay and had the best group during our stay. I’m 52, the eldest volunteer at the time was 77, the youngest 24, but we all had a common goal which is a great starting point. If you are considering volunteering I’d say go for it! With a one week option in lots of programs you can’t go wrong. I absolutely loved my whole time away and have already started looking into my next trip.

Impactful experience !
April 01, 2026by: Yaritza Serrano Gomez - United StatesProgram: Volunteer in Healthcare in India
I had a very enriching and meaningful experience participating in the Delhi program with IVQH. Although my stay was only one week, the impact it had on me was significant, and I truly wish I could have stayed longer. The clinic and the community it serves are located in an area with a great deal of need, which made the experience even more impactful. I felt very fortunate to connect with other volunteers who were incredibly kind, supportive, and passionate about the work. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Delhi. The environment was welcoming and supportive, and the accommodations felt comfortable and home-like. The program overall was well organized, which made it easy to adapt and focus on learning and contributing. I especially valued the time spent in the clinic working with patients. Despite the language barrier, there was strong support for communication, which allowed for meaningful interactions and even the opportunity to learn a few words in Hindi. Overall, this has been one of the most meaningful experiences I have had, and I hope to have the opportunity to return in the future.
Global Health in India
January 24, 2026by: PHU NHAT NGUYEN - VietnamI am honored to have received a full scholarship for the Global Health program in India from Child Health Family International (CFHI). During two weeks of clinical training at hospitals and research facilities across India, I gained a broader and more in-depth perspective on the healthcare system and the public health challenges the country is currently facing. This was truly a valuable experience—not only in terms of healthcare exposure, but also in understanding the culture and people of a nation characterized by remarkable religious and ethnic diversity. I was deeply impressed by India’s culture, perfectly captured by the phrase “countries within a country.” With a population of over 1.4 billion people and still growing, along with a long and proud history as one of the world’s oldest civilizations, India continuously revealed its richness to me. My time there truly brought this to life, especially through the striking diversity of religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and many others. Indian cuisine, often described as “the kitchen of the world,” also left a strong impression on me. Coming from Vietnam—a country well known for its diverse food culture and rich use of spices—I still had to admit that in India, I encountered countless flavors and combinations that I had never even heard of, let alone experienced before. Indian architecture truly stood out to me. From the marble stones of the Taj Mahal to the grandeur of Agra Fort and the intricate details of Qutb Minar, each structure showcased an extraordinary level of craftsmanship, with carvings so delicate and detailed that they were simply breathtaking.

IVHQ Medical volunteering project
September 08, 2025by: Andrea Butturini - ItalyProgram: Volunteer in Healthcare in India
The medical volunteering project in New Delhi was truly an amazing experience. The local team and the IVHQ coordinator were very supportive. The volunteering experience was very tiring, but fulfilling, considering the amount of patients that visit the slum clinic each morning. Even as a medical student I did lots of things there (basically everything). Just consider that the work you'll do there isn't like anything you're used to in your own country. For example, the physical examination is basically non-existent and the medications are prescribed based just on what the patient complains. If you're thinking about doing this wonderful experience just consider when to do it, from my personal experience August is probably one of the worst month. The temperature is around 40° and the humidity level is usually 90% (which is even worst than it sounds). In addition, there are at least 3 monsoons per week, which means all the street will be flooded with sewage water :)
Unbeatable Experience!
June 01, 2025by: Michaela Forouzan - United StatesChild Family Health International (CFHI) is a global health education nonprofit that partners with local communities and health systems in underserved regions to provide transformative clinical and public health experiences for aspiring health professionals. With a strong emphasis on ethical engagement, cultural humility, and sustainable development, CFHI offers immersive programs that expose participants to real-world healthcare challenges while supporting local providers and promoting global health equity. The CanSupport–Cancer program in New Delhi, India, is one such offering—focusing on palliative and cancer care in a resource-constrained setting. It offers students firsthand experience in home-based care, multidisciplinary teamwork, and the social determinants of health affecting vulnerable populations. As a Medical Observer through CFHI’s CanSupport–Cancer program, I had the privilege of working alongside physicians, nurses, and mental health professionals providing end-of-life care to patients in their homes and local daycare centers. We served individuals facing advanced-stage cancer, HIV/AIDS, muscular dystrophy, stroke, and other serious conditions. I witnessed the importance of dignity, emotional support, and cultural sensitivity in palliative care, and developed a deeper understanding of pain management, family dynamics, and ethical decision-making. This experience not only strengthened my clinical observational skills but also taught me how to provide holistic, patient-centered support during life’s most vulnerable moments. In addition to community-based care, I completed a one-month clinical observership at Apollo Hospitals in New Delhi, one of India’s leading private healthcare institutions. Under neurologists Dr. P.N. Renjen and Dr. Avinash, I observed diagnosis and treatment approaches for strokes, seizures, Parkinson’s disease, and Alzheimer’s, gaining familiarity with neurological exams, neuroimaging, and acute care. I also rotated in pediatric cardiology with Dr. Reetesh Gupta, where I observed echocardiograms, EKG interpretation, and pediatric cardiac surgeries. These combined experiences gave me a holistic view of both public and private healthcare delivery in India and deepened my passion for compassionate, interdisciplinary, and culturally competent medical care.

India volunteering- medical program
April 04, 2025by: Nicola Freeman - United KingdomProgram: Volunteer in Healthcare in India
I had an absolutely amazing time in India volunteering at a slum clinic, as a paediatric nurse, the local team were brilliant with lots of helpful and useful advice. The food at the home stay was delicious and nutritious and IVHQ were great support with answering all my questions and queries before I left, a great pre placement training module, insurance and arranging pick up from the airport. I knew I had support 24/7 and felt completely at ease the whole time I was away without any worries. I would absolutely 100% do another volunteering programme with IVHQ again and definitely go back to India again as I loved it!
I had a great experience!
July 27, 2024by: Michael Phan - VietnamMy time with CFHI in New Delhi was truly transformative, both personally and professionally. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed into a supportive and enriching environment that allowed me to grow and learn in ways I had never imagined. The CFHI program provided an exceptional range of clinical experiences. I had the chance to observe and participate in various medical practices, which enriched my understanding of healthcare delivery in a resource-constrained setting. The hands-on experience, coupled with insightful lectures, deepened my knowledge and skills. The mentors and healthcare professionals involved in the program were outstanding. Their dedication to teaching and their willingness to share their expertise created a nurturing learning environment. They were always available to answer questions and provide guidance, which made the experience even more valuable. CFHI’s program in New Delhi offered a profound cultural experience. Living in such a vibrant city allowed me to immerse myself in Indian culture, traditions, and daily life. This aspect of the program was incredibly enriching and helped me develop a broader perspective on global health issues. The program is designed with a strong emphasis on community health. I appreciated how CFHI integrates community service into the experience, providing meaningful opportunities to engage with and contribute to local communities. This aspect of the program was particularly rewarding and highlighted the importance of giving back. The CFHI team was exceptionally well-organized and supportive throughout my stay. From pre-departure preparations to on-the-ground support, everything was handled with professionalism and care. Any concerns or issues were addressed promptly, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience. Participating in the CFHI program in New Delhi was an incredibly enriching experience that I will cherish for years to come. It provided me with invaluable clinical exposure, cultural insights, and personal growth opportunities. I highly recommend this program to anyone interested in gaining hands-on healthcare experience while making a meaningful impact in a global context.

This is the second time I have travelled with IVHQ
July 25, 2024by: Apolline CharpentierProgram: Volunteer in Healthcare in India
This is the second time I have travelled with IVHQ, New Delhi India in 2024 and Kochi India in 2023. Each time, my IVHQ Program Manager was very helpful and supportive so thank you! I felt that volunteering in the slum clinic was very impactful. I discovered New Delhi and the Indian culture, learnt so much on a medical aspect and met so many lovely people (both the locals and the other volunteers). I would highly recommend IVHQ to have a fabulous and impacting experience in complete safety.
Most Supported Program to work in India
January 31, 2024by: Syd G - United StatesThrough this fellowship, I've been able to work on UNICEF and UNESCO environmental education training and capacity-building projects. While the project placements vary, my experience has been one that could not have happened any other way, as an American citizen figuring out how to work and live in India. The entire AIF team is so supportive, and while I would say the experience of living and working in India is not for the faint of heart, this is the best way I can find for anyone to do that, and to come away with incredible professional growth and experience to show for it. I highly recommend this program to anyone who is interested in the development sector but only those who are ready for a challenge.
My first ever job will be my best ever job.
January 25, 2024by: Aashritha Murali - IndiaI joined the AIF BIF fellowship as the class of 2023-24. Sitting through a round of online applications and rounds of interview was one filled with doubt, but extremely satisfying. From the very first step, from the interview, candidates are provided help, for example, the website and the work of the fellows gives a fantastic picture of what the fellowship will be like. The team is also extremely helpful and prompt to respond to mails as well. Although I do not have as much experience in the development sector, I was provided this opportunity to serve with an NGO whose work I really liked. My host organization is very supportive as well. The team always makes sure there is ample support and resources that fellows have for learning during their fellowship and contribute to their projects. The regular check-ins, the training and orientation provided before starting our projects help us transition well into our host sites. Health insurance, other resources related to health and safety- the team provides information about everything, contacts and support system that you can reach out to. The team really makes sure that you learn and contribute to your best in the fellowship. My motivation has only increased to serve in the development sector after joining the fellowship, and it is an experience of a lifetime. I will wholeheartedly recommend this fellowship to anyone who wishes to work in the development sector.
Banyan Impact Fellowship- My Brief!
January 25, 2024by: Afnan Mohammad - IndiaBanyan Impact Fellowship is a bridge to understand the development sector in India. As a fellow one works with NGOs/NPOs under the themes of livelihood, education, public health and administration. Such an exposure to the development sector gives fellows a chance to not just complete their project but build a community around it. The fellowship team and the strong bond between the fellows is the best experience one could ever take from their abroad experience.
Oh, the places I went!
January 25, 2024by: Sanaa Munjal - IndiaJoining the American India Foundation Banyan Impact Fellowship was a pivotal decision that has undeniably been life-altering in many ways. The nine-month experience was not only enriching but also instrumental in shaping the person I am today, providing unparalleled learning opportunities. The connections I made during this journey continue to be a source of learning, and personal growth. I joined my Host Organisation as a fellow and gladly continue to work with something that I feel so close to and passionate about. Reflecting on my journey, I entered the fellowship lacking grassroots experience, however, this period has exceeded my expectations, not only altering my perspective but also instilling in me the confidence to believe in myself, embrace uncertainty, and step out of my comfort zone.
I am in the current batch of AIF Banyan Impact fellowship. To be honest so far the overall experience is really really great. Be it support from the team. Learning from the work, logistics and other things are very very good and interesting. It's is
January 25, 2024by: Vineet Prakash - IndiaI will highly recommend to individuals you really have interest or passion to work in a development sector. This 10 months journey will help you to shape your career. I have done quite a lot fellowship in India but AIF will be top of all.
A Transformative Journey with AIF Banyan Impact Fellowship in Auroville
January 25, 2024by: HAMEEM MUHAMMAD - IndiaBeing part of the AIF Banyan Impact Fellowship in Auroville has been a truly enriching experience for me over the past four months. I find myself overwhelmed with gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the host organization, Social Entrepreneurship Association, that aligns with my values and focuses on regenerative travel, education, fair trade, and bioregion development projects. The organization's commitment to a telos-driven approach has been a revelation for me.The fellowship has not just been about work; it's been a holistic journey of personal growth and learning. Engaging in projects that promote regenerative travel, education, fair trade, and bioregion development has opened my eyes to the positive impact one can have on society. While I may not fully comprehend the extent of the change I'm bringing to the community, I am acutely aware of the significant transformation within myself. The fellowship has been a catalyst for change in my perspective, particularly regarding travel. Taking the resolution of flightless travel this year was a direct result of the realizations and insights gained during my time with the host organization. The emphasis on sustainable practices and regenerative approaches has left an indelible mark on my consciousness. Expressing the depth of this transformation is a challenge, as words seem inadequate. However, I can confidently say that the fellowship has been a turning point in my life. The exposure to meaningful projects, the immersive experience in Auroville, and the ethos of the organization have collectively shaped me into a more conscious and responsible individual. In conclusion, my AIF Banyan Impact Fellowship in Auroville has been more than just a professional experience – it has been a journey of self-discovery and a commitment to making a positive impact on the world. I am grateful for the lessons learned, the relationships formed, and the positive changes set in motion, both within and around me.

I met so many incredible people from all over the world
August 05, 2023by: Agne DagilyteProgram: Volunteer in Healthcare in India
I could not be more grateful to the local team in Delhi, India. They were very easy to contact at any time, communication or relations were the most heart-warming and pleasant, perfect care was provided 24/7. Personally, volunteering in the slum clinic (in Faridabad, India) undoubtedly changed my perspective of life, values, family and friends. I have probably never seen such heart-warming people with the biggest smiles in my life as in the slum clinic. Treatments and providing help in the slum clinic was definitely primitive, arriving from the western end of the world, ever so small yet mind blowing to the locals. I could not be more grateful for the opportunity given to me and so are people in Faridabad, India. Moreover, I met so many incredible people from all over the world and made so many lifelong friends.
Volunteering trip made me feel empowered and capable
April 05, 2023by: Sandeep AggarwalProgram: Volunteer in Healthcare in India
The prep from IVHQ was very thorough and provided very useful information. The step by step guide was easy to use. Scotia answered all questions as they arose. The local team was friendly, extremely supportive and they made us feel very comfortable. From this volunteering trip, I felt I could make a difference even with limited resources and outside my specialty.
With CFHI in Delhi
January 16, 2023by: Grace Shelton - United StatesI went to Delhi, India for two weeks with CFHI and I couldn't have imagined what an amazing experience it would be! I have always wanted to study abroad and I will be wrapping up my Health Sciences undergraduate degree in a semester so I decided now was the time. During my two weeks I went to various rotations in palliative end-of-life care, adolescent de-addiction centers, HIV treatment and prevention centers, and had discussions with a LBGTQ organization, pediatrician, acupressure therapist, and more! I am planning on going on to graduate school to get my doctorate of physical therapy. Although this wasn't all physical therapy related, it was all people related which is the first step of physical therapy. I had also never traveled out of the country by myself and while intimidating at first, CFHI was so supportive in every aspect of travel! And so helpful with whatever I needed or wanted while in country. The coordinators and country director helped plan weekend excursions and little sight seeing and immersion opportunities during the weeks too!

I was well informed on the steps to take before my trip
December 16, 2022by: Joaquin ZapetaProgram: Volunteer in Healthcare in India
I was well informed on the steps to take before my trip. Every question I had was answered on a timely manner. The local team were all professional. They were kind, patient, tried to answer all my questions. I liked that my private room was comfortable and clean. The bathroom and shower were also very clean. I loved how we were helping people with treatment and providing medicine at no cost. Try it!!! You will be amazed how safe, comfortable you will be during the program.
Just try it!
November 15, 2022by: James BanerjeeProgram: Volunteer in Healthcare in India
Both families hosting volunteers were extremely nice and approachable. The first day working in the slum clinics was my favorite, as well as realising how fortunate I am and the importance of helping others. Just try it! I didn't at all expect to enjoy it as much as I did, and it was as a fantastic experience which I will definitely do again.
This was my 4th trip with IVHQ
October 27, 2022by: Ruthanna RayThis was my 4th trip with IVHQ, I have had the most fun and learned so much by volunteering with IVHQ. This year was different for me as I traveled to India instead of Africa, so the culture was completely strange to me. The living conditions for our students was the worst I have ever encounter. But when the children came to school, they all had beautiful smiles and were truly happy to see us. Expand your horizon, take the plunge and contact IVHQ, you will be in good hands. You will not regret your decision to join IVHQ programs.
