<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?</h3>
<p>I felt inspired to travel to Cordoba because Argentina's history of human rights activism is powerful and deeply moving. I wanted to learn directly from people working on the front lines of social justice, contribute in a practical way, and return home with a deeper understanding of justice and resilience.</p>
<h3>Why did you choose <a title="undefined" href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/mondify rel="" target="_self" class="clickTracker" rev="domainID=2&amp;refererType=1&amp;refererID=3413&amp;abbreviation=CSCT&amp;clientID=63312" data-ga-client="Mondify" data-contentlink="">Mondify</a>?</h3>
<p>I chose this <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/mondify/programs/empower-change-human-rights-internship-in-argentina-198325 rel="" target="_self" class="link">Human Rights program in Argentina</a> based on positive reviews from previous volunteers and my curiosity to learn more and better understand the ongoing sacrifices made by passionate human rights activists and program coordinators.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I was keen to explore multiple aspects of human rights, encompassing gender violence, gender inequality, and homelessness, to name a few.</p>
<h3>What was your favorite part about Cordoba?</h3>
<p>Staying with a host family in Cordoba allowed me to truly immerse myself in the Argentine lifestyle. I felt wonderfully welcomed, enjoyed delicious local cuisine, and relished the opportunity to practice my Spanish in a very supportive environment.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Cordoba is a beautiful city, with lots of cultural and tourist activities to do in your free time.</p>
<h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3>
<p>My experience was incredible on so many levels.</p>
<p>I loved meeting local people, immersing myself in the culture, and most importantly, feeling I had made a small difference in helping victims of human rights abuses and supporting the development of awareness campaigns for ongoing initiatives.</p>
<p>Returning home, I felt my perspective had broadened, and my knowledge and understanding of human rights had increased substantially.</p>

<h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>Guillermo Cogorno, Mondify's Country Director, couldn't have been more welcoming and supportive.&nbsp;</p>
<p>He ensured that I maximized every learning opportunity and encouraged me to practice my Spanish daily. With a rich understanding of Argentina's history, I was fascinated by the breadth and depth of his perspective and knowledge.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Agustina, the program coordinator for the Human Rights program, was both a great supporter and encourager.</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently during your time abroad?</h3>
<p>With insight, I wished I had worked harder on my Spanish lessons pre-departure and researched Argentina's history more deeply.</p>
<p>I also wished I had been able to extend my placement from two-weeks to four. By the time I got into my stride and felt settled, it was time to wrap up.</p>
<p>I would advise all volunteers to stay for at least 3 weeks!</p>
<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>Breakfast with my host family involved easy conversation about the day ahead.&nbsp;</p>
<p>At 9 am, I head to my placement and continue where I left off. Fortunately, it was an easy bus ride.<br>My favorite was interviewing people who had suffered human rights abuses, working together to design awareness campaigns, and doing further research.</p>
<p>In the afternoons, I enjoy relaxing over coffee and with other volunteers. Frequently, we would plan activities for the evening.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It was fun to make friends from France, the USA, and the UK.</p>

<h3>What did you enjoy doing during your free time abroad?</h3>
<p>Sitting in public squares sketching majestic buildings and pretty patios: Cordoban patios are famous for their flower-filled courtyards. I loved walking through these beautiful courtyards.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Coffee with Alfajores: I have never enjoyed such beautiful coffee. Extra Alfajores were packed for my return!&nbsp;</p>
<p>Tapas with fellow volunteers: always fun to share stories with new friends and discuss justice, democracy, and social change while living among locals rather than tourists.</p>
<p>Photography and journalling: a perfect hobby to help me remember my memories and solidify my impressions.</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>I stayed with a host family who welcomed me with open arms. They had space for 6 volunteers; however, I was their only visitor, so I was spoiled rotten!</p>
<p>My room had a double bed, was spacious and clean, with a nice view of the garden. The bathroom, with a separate shower, was right beside my bedroom.</p>
<p>My host Dad was a fabulous cook, so we enjoyed delicious suppers, and I loved sitting around the table after we had eaten and chatting about life in Argentina.</p>

<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3>
<p>It would be helpful to arrive with a broad understanding of human rights, as well as some knowledge of the human rights struggles from 1976 to 1983.</p>
<p>If you like teaching, I suggest chatting with the program coordinator ahead of time and preparing some teaching materials in advance.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Remember to pack markers, tapes, and research notes so you will hit the ground running!</p>
<h3>Would you recommend your program/provider to others? Why?</h3>
<p>Most definitely!</p>
<p>There is real-world impact, not just theory. As a volunteer, you connect with participants who have lived human-rights issues in Argentina, which offers hands-on experience with community organizations, so learning feels meaningful and grounded.</p>
<p>Deep cultural immersion in a vibrant student city occurs, and personal growth is guaranteed to last much longer than the placement.</p>
<h3>What do you feel the biggest benefit of traveling abroad is?</h3>
<p>Huge personal growth and independence: I had to adapt to a new language, culture, and pace of life. As a result, I grew in confidence and resiliency and became a more capable problem solver.</p>
<p>A cultural perspective that sticks for life: I especially loved the family-centred social life.</p>
<p>Language, friendships, and global curiosity: being immersed in Spanish and meeting local people made my learning feel real and exciting.</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>I have continued to stay in contact with friends and Mondify staff and plan to return to Cordoba at some time in the future.</p>
<p>My interest in Argentina has increased. I feel I have a special connection and have continued to follow social, political, and economic developments in the country. I love sharing my photographs and telling others about my experience.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>Meaningful travel is authentic and reciprocal.</p>
<p>There should be a balance of outcomes for both the giver and receiver. Meaningful travel grows empathy and global awareness. One needs to live inside another culture (not just observing it) to see different values and perspectives.</p>
<p>Language learning becomes real and motivating. It is a vital life skill.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?</h3>
<p>I was inspired to go abroad because I wanted to learn more about the culture, improve my language skills, meet new people, and help others in any way I could. The experience exceeded my expectations, offering personal growth, unforgettable memories, and meaningful connections. It was truly one of the best experiences I’ve ever had, and I would gladly do it again because of the positive impact it had on my life.</p>
<h3>Why did you choose your specific program?</h3>
<p>I chose this specific program because, as a law student, volunteering in the field of human rights was a perfect fit. It aligned with my passion and allowed me to apply what I’ve learned in a real-world context. I loved every project I worked on and valued every person I met along the way. The program offered meaningful experiences that challenged me, expanded my understanding of human rights issues, and helped me develop practical skills. Beyond the work itself, the connections I made with other volunteers and local staff were inspiring and motivating. <h3>What was your favorite part of your host country?</h3>
<p>My favorite part about my host country was definitely the food and the people. The cuisine was incredible, with flavors and dishes I had never tried before, making every meal a new adventure. But what truly made me feel at home were the people; they were so welcoming, kind, and loving. From friendly neighbors to my host family, everyone made an effort to include me, share their culture, and make me feel like I belonged. Their warmth and generosity made the experience unforgettable, and combined with the amazing food, it created a sense of comfort and joy that I will always remember.</p>

<h3>What made your experience abroad extraordinary?</h3>
<p>Everything made my experience abroad extraordinary, but the liberty and freedom definitely played a big part. Being able to explore the country at my own pace allowed me to fully immerse myself in the culture, discover new places, and meet incredible people along the way. I could try new activities, visit landmarks, and even go off the beaten path without feeling restricted. This independence helped me grow more confident, responsible, and self-aware. Every moment, whether it was an adventure, a simple conversation, or a quiet reflection, added to the richness of the experience, making it truly unforgettable and life-changing.</p>
<h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>The local staff supported me every step of the way and were always there when I needed them. From the very beginning, they made sure I felt welcomed, comfortable, and prepared for my experience. Whenever I had questions, concerns, or just needed advice, they were quick to respond with kindness and patience. Their guidance made it much easier to adapt to the new environment, and I always felt that I could count on them for both professional and personal support. Knowing that they were available gave me a sense of security and allowed me to focus on enjoying and making the most out of my program.</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you had done differently during your time abroad?</h3>
<p>Honestly, nothing, because I felt very well prepared for my time abroad. I took the experience with an open mind and made the most of every opportunity that came my way. I adapted quickly, enjoyed the challenges, and embraced the cultural differences without hesitation. Looking back, I feel proud that I stayed true to myself and didn’t hold back from trying new things or meeting new people. Of course, no experience is ever perfect, but I believe that being prepared and positive helped me avoid regrets. For that reason, there isn’t really anything I wish I had done differently.</p>

<h3>Describe what a typical day in your life abroad looked like.</h3>
<p>A typical day in my life abroad started with waking up early and going to work on one of my missions. Each morning brought new tasks and responsibilities that helped me learn and grow. After finishing work, I returned to my house, had lunch, and then enjoyed my free afternoons. Sometimes I met up with friends, explored new places, or simply relaxed while taking in the atmosphere of my surroundings. In the evenings, I always looked forward to family dinners with my host family. These moments were special, filled with good food, laughter, and conversations that made me feel at home. This balance of work, exploration, and connection made every day meaningful and rewarding.</p>
<h3>What did you enjoy doing during your free time abroad?</h3>
<p>During my free time abroad, I really enjoyed visiting the capital. Exploring the city allowed me to see its most iconic landmarks, discover its history, and experience the energy of local life. I loved walking through different neighborhoods, trying new foods, and visiting museums or cultural sites that gave me a deeper understanding of the country. Spending time in the capital also meant meeting new people, both locals and other travelers, which made each visit even more exciting. Every trip there felt like a new adventure, and I appreciated how much it broadened my perspective while creating memories I will always cherish.</p>
<h3>What type of accommodation did you have? What did you like best about it?</h3>
<p>I stayed in a house with a host family, and what I liked best about it was the family itself. They were truly amazing, welcoming, supportive, and always ready to help me feel at home. Living with them gave me the chance to experience the culture in a very authentic way, from sharing meals together to learning about their traditions and daily routines. I really appreciated the warmth and kindness they showed me, which made the transition much easier and created a sense of belonging. The connections I built with them made my stay unforgettable, and I will always be grateful for the memories we created together.</p>
<h3>What is one thing every future participant should know about your program before their program begins?</h3>
<p>You should be able to adapt, because it can be challenging at first. Everything feels new, and it might take time to get used to the culture, the people, and the daily rhythm. The most important thing is to be yourself, stay open, and be chill when things don’t go as planned. Flexibility and patience will make the experience much smoother, and you’ll soon realize that the challenges are part of the adventure. They help you grow, make you stronger, and often lead to the most memorable moments. Embracing the ups and downs will allow you to fully enjoy the program and get the best out of it.</p>

<h3>Would you recommend your program to others? Why?</h3>
<p>Yes, because it made me grow up, see things differently, and become much more open-minded. I would recommend <a href=https://www.goabroad.com/providers/mondify/programs/empower-change-human-rights-internship-argentina-198325 rel="" target="_self" class="link"><ins>this program</ins></a> to others since it offers the chance to step outside of your comfort zone, meet amazing people, and experience a culture in a very authentic way. It not only allows you to learn about the world but also about yourself, helping you gain independence, confidence, and new perspectives. The support from the program and the unforgettable experiences it provided made my time abroad both meaningful and transformative. I truly believe anyone who joins would benefit in ways that last far beyond the trip itself.</p>

<p>To meet new people and to know more about yourself. Traveling abroad pushes you outside of your comfort zone, exposing you to different cultures, traditions, and perspectives. This experience not only helps you build meaningful connections with people from around the world but also deepens your understanding of your own values and identity. By navigating unfamiliar environments, learning new languages, and adapting to diverse lifestyles, you develop resilience, open-mindedness, and empathy. These moments of cultural exchange enrich your life, broaden your worldview, and often inspire personal growth in ways that staying at home cannot. Ultimately, traveling abroad transforms both the way you see others and the way you see yourself.</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has your time abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>Yes, I have great memories and still speak to my friends from there. I still remember experiences and conversations that made me very happy and grateful for this opportunity. Living abroad gave me a new perspective on life and taught me to appreciate diversity in people and cultures. I feel more confident and independent now, as I learned how to adapt to unfamiliar situations and navigate challenges far from home. The friendships I built continue to enrich my life, reminding me that distance does not weaken meaningful connections. Overall, my time abroad left me with lasting happiness, personal growth, and a deeper appreciation for the world around me.</p>
<h3>What does meaningful travel mean to you?</h3>
<p>When things that were not planned happen, and you enjoy every second of them. To me, meaningful travel is about embracing the unexpected, letting challenges shape you, and discovering your own strength through those moments. It’s not just about seeing new places, but about how those experiences change the way you think and feel. When you struggle with yourself but always find solutions, you grow more adaptable, patient, and confident. Being open to new experiences allows you to connect deeply with people and cultures, creating memories that stay with you long after the trip ends. Meaningful travel leaves you transformed, carrying lessons and joy that continue to influence your everyday life.</p>

<h3>What inspired you to go abroad?</h3>
<p>I wanted to travel but I didn't want to do the tourist attractions route. I wanted to meet the people beyond the general 'hi, how are you where are you from’, etc. I also wanted to use the skills I have to give something back to the country I was visiting. I knew I wanted to make friends and find a new family so that I would have a reason to go back!</p>
<h3>Why did you choose International Volunteer HQ?</h3>
<p>I chose my specific program because they seemed very legit. The work they put into developing their website, and maintaining contact and input from past volunteers, made me feel more secure that I would have a great experience. I chose Argentina because, honestly, it was the first one on the list. Don't judge!</p>

<h3>What was your favorite part about Argentina?</h3>
<p>My favorite part about my host country was the children. They were so connected to what was going on in their country politically, culturally and socially. They seemed very mature to me and they were only fourteen to sixteen years old. During our conversation class they didn't ask me questions like "What is your favorite color?" but questions like "What do you think about the current political candidates in the U.S.?" "My mom is Catholic and my dad is atheist and I'm agnostic. What's your religion and why?" It was truly a memorable experience.</p>
<h3>What made your experience abroad unique?</h3>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>The connections I made with the students and teachers I met made my experience unique. We were able to bond over the challenges that come with teaching in a public school system. To see their commitment and drive to give their all on a daily basis was truly inspiring.</p>

<h3>How did local staff support you throughout your program?</h3>
<p>The local staff did their best to make me feel like I was cared for as an individual among a group of other volunteers. They did not treat us all as one, and diversified their attention to us based on our personalities and needs. It was a perfect balance of 'motherly/fatherly' care yet independence to be free and explore.</p>
<h3>What's one thing you wish you would have done differently?</h3>
<p>I wasted the first weekend recovering from jet lag when I should have explored somewhere close by, like Che Guevara's home. I am kicking myself over that one, but just another reason to go back!</p>
<h3>Describe a typical day in the life of your program.</h3>
<p>A typical day involved eating breakfast and heading off to my volunteer program. I worked with kids teaching them English language skills. Lunchtime was always a scavenger hunt. It’s very exciting, especially when you find a local restaurant actually open during <em>siesta</em> time. You will know what winning the lottery feels like when you do! In the evenings, I explored the town or chilled out at the volunteer house until dinner time. After dinner some days we had salsa and bachata dance lessons, and once a week we had a bonfire, with marshmallows, graham crackers, and delicious <em>dulce de leche</em> for Argentinian s'mores.</p>
<h3>What did you enjoy doing in your free time?&nbsp;</h3>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>In my free time on the weekends I would travel to see the many landscapes Argentina had to offer. I went to the south to see the icy blue glaciers at the National Glacier Park, then north to the cascading Iguazu Falls. I also went to Buenos Aires and caught a parade held by the indigenous Argentinians, it was absolutely captivating to see the diversity of the various tribes.</p>

<h3>What was your accommodation like? What did you like best about it?&nbsp;</h3>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>My accommodation was at a volunteer house, however I paid a little extra for a private room and bath. That was definitely the best thing about my stay at the house.</p>
<h3>What is one thing every participant should know before participating in your program?</h3>
<p>A piece of advice I would give to someone going on my program is to not go with the intention of changing what they have already going on. What I mean by that is you will encounter a community's way of doing something that is different from your own. I think it is best to remember that different is not inferior or less efficient, but that different is just that, different. I think it would be best to remember that we are only in these programs for a short period of time and that we should focus on how we can best support the program while there. My advice would be to ask yourself "What can I learn from this experience?" versus "What can I show them how to do in a&nbsp;</p>
<p>‘better’ way?" I think with this approach, even if you end up doing something differently, it keeps the doors open to one seeing the difference and then being more motivated to inquire about the new technique or strategy. Bonus advice: travel solo as much as you can (even if you make friends at the volunteer house) and invest in a selfie stick. Trust me, it's super fun!</p>
<h3>Now that you're home, how has volunteering abroad impacted your life?</h3>
<p>I've been positively impacted in my life by this experience because it showed me that public school education is a struggle everywhere. It reinforced the fact that teachers can do almost anything when they have close to nothing to work with, while staying positive and committed to the children they serve.</p>

<h3>Would you recommend IVHQ to others? Why?</h3>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p>I would recommend this program and IVHQ because they take care of you and make sure you have a positive experience. I was in my program for four weeks, and at no point was I homesick or extremely miserable. I was too engaged with my volunteer projects and just felt safe and secure.</p>
