Chiang Mai is fondly referred to as the “Rose of the North” for its beautiful and relaxing atmosphere amidst friendly smiles, temples, and flowers. You can experience all the city has to offer by signing up for the Chiang Mai program of USAC. This is a wonderful opportunity to study and live in a vibrant city. The academic component involves studies in philosophy, economics, politics, culture, religions, and Thai and Southeast Asian languages. You will dive into multiple disciplines, allowing you to respond to Thailand and the region’s current events and ever-changing issues. Normal coursework only comprises half the value of your exciting semester or year abroad. Participation in social and cultural activities - such as field trips to the Chiang Rai province, villages, and national parks around Chiang Mai - as well as optional field studies also form an essential part of the program. Learn about human rights policies and issues in Chiang Mai, Thailand, on a 6-week internship or research project. Work directly with ethnic minority groups in the picturesque mountains, study gender equality near lush rice paddies, or advocate with human rights groups in Chiang Mai's red-light district. With a large portion of the Thai population over 60 and a slightly larger male-to-female ratio, Thailand serves as the perfect backdrop to focus on various human rights issues and policies. You will work directly with local communities and disadvantaged groups, such as the elderly, women and children, and ethnic minorities. Participate in an internship or research project on human rights advocacy, gender equality, or rural education.

The courses are taught in English by lecturers with international experience. Students can earn up to 35-36 ECTS or 21-24 US credits. The program at this traditional university is suitable for you who want to deepen your knowledge of Asia, its economy, and its culture in an international environment. You'll also learn the Thai language and interact with local students and other exchange students from all over the world. In the Edu-Odyssey program, students engage in accredited courses that go beyond the classroom through educational excursions and hands-on activities. The blend of traditional and modern influences preserved customs, and the complex history makes Thailand an important case study for studying Southeast Asia. The program explores the rich history and cultural heritage of three distinct cities—Bangkok, Ayutthaya, and Chiang Mai—providing a deeper appreciation of the role of history in shaping leadership styles. Students can choose between two courses over the three weeks, for a total of up to 6 credits. "Thai History and Culture" provides a foundation in Thai history and culture. The "Leadership in Asia: Focus Thailand" course equips them with leadership skills in a globalized world.
