APA Multi-Country: France, Morocco, Senegal

The French-speaking world is a dynamic melting pot of language, history, and culture. Visit three prominent Francophone host cities in one semester—Paris, France; Rabat, Morocco; and Dakar, Senegal—for an interdisciplinary and reflective approach to study abroad. Students all take one common course: "Introduction to France, Morocco and Senegal: Three Worlds, One Language". This course presents the historical, geographical, socio-economic, and cultural context of each country. Students choose the remaining three courses from the available course selection in language, literature, history, political science, gender studies, art history, economics, and more. Taught by local French professors, all courses extend beyond the classroom with guest speakers, site visits, and immersive cultural experiences. Individual language support is organized each week. Take advantage of each host city's culture by participating in various thoughtfully planned cultural activities and excursions included in the program. Students earn 16 U.S. credits, complete capstone research, and live with three host families, tripling cultural insights and French exposure.

Regional Studies in French, Morocco (Semester/Academic Year)

Study in the imperial city of Rabat, Morocco’s bustling capital in which Arab, European, indigenous Amazigh, and sub-Saharan African influences intersect to create a cultural dynamic unlike any other. The Amideast Education Abroad Regional Studies in French program offers a unique study abroad opportunity for intermediate to advanced students of the French language. A diverse array of courses are taught in the French language (with the exception of Arabic courses). Homestays with local French-speaking Moroccan families grant students an intimate look at the local culture as they hone their language skills in a distinctly non-European Francophone environment. Finally, organized excursions span exciting locations from the ancient medina of Fez to the quiet village of Zawyat Ahansal in the Atlas Mountains.

Become Immersed in Moroccan Culture in a Welcoming and Tight-Knit Community

January 02, 2026by: Anthony Wiles - United States

Program: IES Abroad Rabat – Study in Rabat

My experience studying with IES Abroad in Rabat was truly life changing! The small and tightly-knit community that formed here amongst students, program staff, and faculty, as well as our loving and hospitable host families, contributed to a warm, inclusive, and welcoming environment. IES staff went above and beyond to ensure my classmates and I felt supported and safe, and enjoyed our experiences in Morocco. Navigating culture shock and language barriers became much more doable and fulfilling with the preparation IES gave us. Our classes were rigorous yet enjoyable, with many opportunities for students to expand their knowledge in fields of interest to them. Additionally, weekly cultural activities and field trips ensured that we saw many perspectives of life in our host country, while also becoming immersed in Moroccan culture. Without a doubt, I would recommend IES Rabat to any students looking for an immersive and exciting study abroad experience different from a typical exchange semester.
