Exciting and new adventures that happened with the World Class program!
August 24, 2026by: Isabella LopezLinde - United StatesProgram: Discover Yourself in Osaka, Japan
This year I participated in the Osaka World Class program and I loved it! I experience many exciting activities with much to see and do. From sight seeing to eating delicious food, all of it was great. Hiroshima was one of my all time favorite places that we went to by far, it was a long day of traveling, but 100% worth it. I specifically remember the Hiroshima peace memorial, while it was a solemn memorial they still had a beautiful tribute to the lives lost. Informing others on how big this impacted their community and how they moved on from this. This program allowed the opportunity to immerse myself in an atmosphere where I can learn and understand the Japanese culture.
Osaka World Class 2026
August 23, 2026by: Kristin Duvall - United StatesProgram: Discover Yourself in Osaka, Japan
Two of my daughters went to the 2026 Osaka World Class program. They absolutely loved it! From exploring Japanese temples, to visiting historical sites, learning Japanese language and cuisine, to shopping, they enjoyed every day to the fullest.
This Was Such A Once In A Lifetime Experience!!!
August 21, 2026by: Linnea Mersinger - United StatesProgram: Discover Yourself in Osaka, Japan
Oh my gosh, where do I even start with this program? It was absolutely, positively, mind-blowingly amazing! Seriously, I can’t even begin to express how incredible it was. From the very first day, I was in love with World Class Programs. The energy, the staff, the excitement, the sheer awesomeness of it all was just overwhelming in the best way possible. First off, the people and teachers at World Class Programs were just the best. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, and it felt like I was part of a big, happy family right from the start. The instructors were super knowledgeable and passionate about what they were teaching, and it was so inspiring to see how much they cared about helping us succeed. They continuously went above and beyond to make sure we understood everything and were always there to answer any questions we had, no matter how silly they might have seemed. And the activities! Oh my goodness, the activities were just out of this world. We got to do so many cool things that I never even thought I’d get the chance to try. There were trips to places like Kyoto, Nara (to see the deer!!!), Himeji, Hiroshima (on the peace day festival) and Tokyo! We also played group games, and even some fun, unexpected surprises that kept us on our toes and made every day an adventure (don’t even ask me about the “karaoke” experience! Haha). I learned so much and had a blast doing it. It was, seriously, like being in a dream. But it wasn’t just the people and activities that made this program so amazing. It was also the environment. Japan. Oh Japan. Japan was just beautiful, with stunning views and a vibe that was both really chill and relaxing, and also energizing at the same time. It was the perfect setting for us to focus, learn, and grow, and I felt so lucky to be there. Every morning, I would wake up excited to see what the day had in store, and every night, I would go to bed feeling grateful for the incredible experiences I had. I also have to mention how much I learned. This program was not just fun and games; it was also incredibly educational. I took the Japanese history course for my major and Photography for my minor. I gained so much knowledge and skills that I know will be super valuable in the future. The way the information was presented was so engaging and easy to understand, and I felt like I was really absorbing everything. Being able to EXPERIENCE things rather than just talk about them was great. It was like my brain was a sponge, soaking up all the amazing stuff being thrown at it. And let’s not forget about the friendships I made. I met so many awesome people who I will never forget. We had so much fun together, whether we were playing “taco cat goat cheese pizza”, hanging out during breaks, watching movies, or just chatting about life. Even though we all just met, It was like we had known each other forever, and I felt so lucky to have them in my life. We even planned to stay in touch after the program ended, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for all of us. In conclusion, this program was just the best experience of my life. It was everything I could have ever hoped for and more. I learned so much, met so many amazing people, and had the time of my life. I will always look back on this program with fond memories and a heart full of gratitude. It was truly an incredible experience, and I am so thankful to have been a part of it. Thank you World Class Programs!!!

Living My Dream For Three Weeks!
August 21, 2026by: Lily Wallace - US Virgin IslandsProgram: Discover Yourself in Osaka, Japan
Let me tell you, World Class Programs is the way to go, especially the Japan program. If you’re wanting to experience a fun and exciting adventure that broadens your worldview, this is it. Throughout the three weeks, they not only made me feel safe and supported, but also like family. The staff were also super nice and helped you keep on going even when you were tired. We were all in it together! The activities were also all immersive and varied, so you get a good mix of history, culture, and souvenirs to bring home! If your a history buff, you’ll be especially happy! This is a program that everyone, atleast once in their life, needs to experience!
My time at world class programs
August 21, 2026by: Robin Scheldberg - United StatesProgram: Discover Yourself in Osaka, Japan
I went on a 3 week study abroad trip to Japan in 2026 and I had sososo much fun! I was nervous about traveling alone but all the staff were friendly and experienced in travel, so they took all the stress away. The whole trip all the staff were extremely kind, fun and understanding. They always accommodated everyone’s needs. I had lots of fun doing the classes and genuinely learned so much more than I knew before this trip. I felt like I was learning even outside of class in the funnest way possible, I feel like I might even be able to navigate a train station by myself! I really enjoyed free time and I bought so much stuff. I loved going to the malls and animate, my clothing and figure collection has grown substantially. This trip was genuinely a once in a lifetime experience and I had worlds of fun. My only con is that I wish we could have our own rooms the whole time, mostly because I’m a big introvert and I just enjoy having my own space!! Everyone on the program and not was so friendly and Japan is a great place to visit, especially with world class programs!!

Sophia’s Japan Trip
August 21, 2026by: Sophia Lopez-Linde - United StatesProgram: Discover Yourself in Osaka, Japan
This trip was a rich experience that helped me learn about the local life as well as enjoy the simple and fun experiences in Japan. From the quiet shops to the towering skyscrapers, every day was a new adventure. The nature in Nara, tech in Tokyo, and the cuisine in Osaka all stole my breath. It was an amazing trip and couldn’t recommend it enough. Not only that, but it teaches kids social skills and cues. Going to a different country will teach far more than we know.
Great work experience
December 15, 2019by: Noelle Rivas - FranceProgram: Documentary Outreach - Service Learning for Storytellers
It's an excellent opportunity to make a short film in Less than a month. We learn to work with a team successfully that we had never met. We ended up making a good movie despite the problems that we encountered, and it became fun and straightforward. Overall it was great. I sincerely recommended it.
We are glad that you had such a good experience and would recommend it to others. Of course problems always arise when making films abroad (and making films in general - a big portion of film production is solving problems) and we're glad we equipped your crew with the skills they needed to succeed!
Madeleine's Actuality Media review
September 25, 2019by: Madeleine - United StatesProgram: Documentary Outreach - Service Learning for Storytellers
My experience with Actuality Media was not what I expected - but what I hoped for. As a relative novice to documentary filmmaking, it was hard, stressful and frustrating work, but making a film with three other incredibly talented and intelligent women was so rewarding and an incredible learning experience. Also shout out to our incredible production supervisors who I would not have gotten through editing week without!
We are very glad you had such a good experience traveling with us! Our Production Supervisors certainly are incredible, and so is the film that your crew made!
Unforgettable experience
September 25, 2019by: Quitetoasty - United KingdomProgram: Documentary Outreach - Service Learning for Storytellers
Amazing experience working in Da Nang, Vietnam. I started with little experience or knowledge of film production and came away feeling confident to pursue this as a career, thanks to Actuality Media's comprehensive and rigorous training programme. And what better place to learn than in a totally unfamiliar environment with a bunch of new people. Had a great time getting to know the various characters and personalities of the community surrounding our change maker placement, and even opted to stay after the programme ended and volunteer with this organization. Thanks AM!
You are most welcome! We're so glad you had such a good experience. Keep going on great adventures!
I learned a thing or two
September 22, 2019by: Belikinboi - United StatesProgram: Documentary Outreach - Service Learning for Storytellers
My 4 weeks in Belize making a film really helped give me an indicator of where my career and future projects are going. It was incredible to create an entire film, start to finish, and be proud of the end product. Besides that, I made some lifetime friendships. 9/10 too much Belikin.
We are very glad you had an incredible experience in Belize with us on a Documentary Outreach. Have you found a source for Belikin back home yet?
Samuel’s review
September 20, 2019by: SamuelSamuel - United StatesProgram: Documentary Outreach - Service Learning for Storytellers
This trip was invaluable to me. Someone coming from a non-film school background, I didn’t have a lot in the way of technical film production education. However, after this trip I feel much more well educated, and gained experience that I will carry with me for the rest of my career.
Great time

It was an amazing experience and will definitely be something I remember for my whole life. The friendships and connections I made on the trip are ones I hope to keep for the rest of my life. Everyone seemed genuine and real.
Amazing experience in Jodhpur, India
September 18, 2019by: Jordankatz - United StatesProgram: Documentary Outreach - Service Learning for Storytellers
This was my first time leaving the country, and I had an amazing time! My instructors (Karsu and Steph) were the best and I couldn’t be happier that this was my first time directing a documentary. I loved having the opportunity to also work with a producer/editor and cinematographer, as this taught me a lot about the importance of collaboration.
Chaing Mai Thailand
February 13, 2019by: TukTuk - United StatesProgram: Documentary Outreach - Service Learning for Storytellers
I enjoyed my time in Thailand. Robin did not spend as much time as I hoped with my group. I feel like we where just thrown into filming without really knowing anything or how to work the camera. Im glad we had someone on our team who was a film major.
We're very glad that you had a good experience on your project in Thailand. Ideally we have more staff in-country to help guide and mentor crews for the project but with the unfortunate family emergency of one of the professors (who was planned to lead the camera workshop en route to Thailand) we did find ourselves short-handed. Other work was shifted off Robin to free him as much as possible for firsthand work in Thailand but we understand if you feel you didn't get enough hands on time with him working with your group.
On any project it is up to any instructor of ours to assess which crews need the most direct help - but we are also always pushing crews to take on work and challenges themselves, to make the film more their own. Additionally it is common to have an occasional crew member with no film experience so they may not always be at the same level as others - but that is part of what the project experience is for. We, too, are glad you had a person on your crew that is a film major - the one position where we require experience to travel is for those wanting to be the cinematographer.
We look forward to seeing your finished film!
It was ok
February 12, 2019by: Beachbum313 - United StatesProgram: Documentary Outreach - Service Learning for Storytellers
It was definitely ok. Chiang Mai is really loud, especially at night, and as someone who has never visited Asia before, it was a bit unexpected, but it had a good amount of history to behold when you go looking for it. I'd definitely recommend getting out of the city and into the countryside while you're in country.
We are very glad you found things to enjoy on the program in Chiang Mai.
Like most big cities it does indeed have a lot of round-the-clock noise that can be startling to new visitors. We love to get out of the city when we can, but many of the changemakers we work with for films have offices in those same busy cities so that is where we find ourselves basing to film.
Outreach review
October 15, 2018by: Sofia Sarkar - United KingdomProgram: Documentary Outreach - Service Learning for Storytellers
The outreach programme offers you the opportunity to learn first hand the challenges and joys of developing documentary. It is a deep immersion to the culture and the film making process, working closely with your team to uncover a local story which affects the people f the town. You have the opportunity to understand and see how the people really live and the challenges that affect them, which as a tourist you wouldn't have access to.
June2018
October 10, 2018by: UnivInstructor - United StatesProgram: Documentary Outreach - Service Learning for Storytellers
As an overall summary: I'm glad that I went. The Lake is absolutely stunning, and the people in the communities around it are just wonderful. I did learn a lot, and I'm grateful for the friendships & connections made ... but I definitely think improvements can & should occur for future Outreach programs.
Amazing experience
October 08, 2018by: Evie - United StatesProgram: Documentary Outreach - Service Learning for Storytellers
To anyone considering study abroad programs, I cannot recommend it enough. It truly opened my eyes to the possibilities that surround me, how I can help others, and how much I can learn. It is definitely challenging to encounter another culture and language, but asking questions and truly emerging yourself is all you need to do. I am a better students, and most importantly a better filmmaker after this experience. I cannot wait to learn more and travel to new places. I'm inspired to seek knowledge elsewhere.
Cambodia is a gem and Actuality Media is top notch
October 02, 2018by: erinkzeller - United StatesProgram: Documentary Outreach - Service Learning for Storytellers
From visiting the ancient temples, to making friends with local Khmer people, and interviewing and telling powerful stories, the whole experience was unforgettable. The program is organized and structured; they set the foundation for your documentary film by finding the change-maker and location, but lets you and the crew take creative control from there. In Cambodia, the colors were beautiful, and the people were kind. May/June was a perfect time to visit because it was the rainy season and it isn't as packed with tourists. Each day we explored and learned something new. My perspectives on the world and on storytelling are forever changed thanks to this experience. Actuality Media gave me a chance to do what I love while exploring a new part of the world. Not only did I grow as a producer, but I grew as a person. The instructors are supportive, knowledgeable, and easygoing. It was a blast getting to spend a whole month in a new city, because you really got to know the ins and outs of the area, the way of life, the language, and the people. I highly recommend that every student travels abroad, you learn more by being out of your comfort zone and from people with different lifestyles than you could ever learn in a classroom. All the while, you'll get daily lessons on production and learn new storytelling skills. I've been graduated and working in my field, and I still feel like I took away new knowledge. Thank you Actuality Media for the experience of a lifetime!
