Health Sciences Study Abroad Programs in Dominica

Me and my speech & language therapy group had the most wonderful time here in Dominica. we were exposed to so much rich, vibrant culture, and we’re grateful for the experience. i would come back in a heartbeat

I’ll forever be grateful for my professor for organizing this therapy abroad trip! I learned a lot from doing dynamic assessments with limited materials to counseling parents. I enjoy traveling and this experience exposed me to how a lot of countries don’t have the resources or are not educating on what speech therapy is. This made me even more passionate on living abroad to educate and provide sustainable and quality of care to individuals that need it.

I had such a great time!! Not only bonding with my peers and supervisor. But also connecting with the locals and our guides. Honestly the best experience, I can't wait to do it again, when I can.I thank everyone in the program.

This was my first time traveling outside the country and therapy abroad made traveling easy and smooth. I had an amazing time in Dominica and I am so thankful for the experience! Not only did I get to indulge myself into another culture but I learned so much about myself through this process. I would 100% recommend a trip through study abroad!

This was my first trip outside of the U.S. and I could not be more satisfied! The people I met, the service I was able to provide, and the experiences I had were truly a once in a lifetime experience! I am so blessed to have been able to travel with therapy abroad!

This trip was absolutely incredible. It was the perfect mix of providing services and getting to explore the island! It was really amazing to explore the culture of Dominica and meet so many people. I would recommend a trip like this to everyone.

I had an amazing time studying abroad in Dominica! It was a great experience to be able to meet others and help them! The trip was very well organized and allowed us all to enjoy the trip. I enjoyed being able to help others ranging from youth to geriatric's. I liked how we were able to travel to different settings to provide therapy ranging from school setting's to skilled nursing facility’s. I was very pleased with the organization therapy abroad!

This experience helped me learn so much about speech-language pathology and the culture of Dominica. I left each clinical site learning so much about my field and healthcare in Dominica. This trip allowed me to create lasting memories, which will help shape me. I am so grateful for this opportunity and will suggest it to anyone interested. This is an experience unlike any clinical opportunity graduate school could provide at home.

I was so nervous to study abroad until I arrived in Dominica. Therapy Abroad has the best team. We had the opportunity to work with children and adults. I also had the opportunity to make powerful connections with my peers while I was here. Without the entire team including Therapy Abroad, I wouldn’t have made it. We all supported one another and now we have a strong connection. Most of my peers I didn’t even know before arriving, that’s how powerful this trip was under the leadership of Katie. We had many excursions outside of clinical, in which I really got to know my peers and faculty. I hope Therapy Abroad expands, because it’s such a great opportunity to gain knowledge from these professionals and see your personal growth. I know so grew a lot in just the 10 days I was in Dominica. The knowledge I gained from Therapy abroad will significantly impact the way I handle things in the future as a professional.

I’ve enjoyed my time in Dominica. I felt safe and supported the whole week. I was challenged to be flexible and go outside my comfort zone. It’s been a rewarding and challenging experience. Being here has been a dream. It’s so beautiful and the people are welcoming. I’ve got experiences as a junior in the undergraduate program that I would never have been able to get in the states. Therapy Abroad is an incredible experience. The dedicated staff provide the opportunity to immerse yourself in the culture of Dominica, connect with its wonderful people, and take part in unforgettable excursions. Beyond that, it’s an invaluable learning opportunity, offering hands-on experience in the field of Speech-Language Pathology. If you have the chance to participate, I highly recommend this program!

I have had so much fun on this trip. I’ve gotten to experience the wonderful island of Dominica and learn more about their culture as well as learn so much about Speech Language Pathology! This experience was so worth it and definitely recommend it.

This study abroad trip exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds! It was the PERFECT mix of clinical experiences with cultural and fun excursions and life-time experiences. I even learned how to snorkel! I cannot thank Katie and the Castle Bruce staff enough for their time and effort in making this such a wonderful experience. We are already planning next year’s trip!

My trip was fantastic. The culture and the people are so kind and make you feel so welcome. I felt like I was at a home away from home. It is hard and bittersweet, sweet leaving. The guide, Katie; the drivers, Kenny and Kent; the cooks, Carlo and Mariana; and the house maintenance lady, Flo. We're all amazing and build genuine connections. I came to Castle Bruce feeling like a stranger and left feeling like family.

Coming to Dominica with Therapy Abroad was one of the best decisions that I made. I was a little hesitant to go at first but after experiencing what I did, I am so glad I made the decision to go! The hospitality of everyone that we encountered was amazing, the food was different was delicious and the places that we go to go were unforgettable. Starting with the skilled nursing facilities (SNF), the were a lot different than what I was expecting but I am so glad that we got to come and make a difference in a place that was so deserving and amazing. The staff at both PHARCS and the Dominican Infirmary were amazing and willing to help with any questions that we had and almost all of the patients were so excited to have us there with them. They were all amazing to work with and I learned so much about my clinical work and about myself and what I am so passionate about which is this field. Working at the schools was also an amazing experience and being able to work with the children who need it the most brought so much joy to my heart and it was such a fulfilling experience. The children were so well behaved in their classrooms and the parents of the children and the staff were very welcoming and willing to help in any way that they could. Home health was a very eye opening experience for me as it was amazing and so crazy to see how to people here in Dominica live when they have the needs that some of the patients did. There were a lot of safety concerns for the patients in terms of their living situation and how they were to get in and out of their house but being able to be there and make the appropriate recommendations that were needed for the patients health, speech and communication, and well being. The excursions were unforgettable and something that I would have never done without being on this trip and Katie and all of the staff with therapy abroad took the most amazing care of all of us while being here in Dominica. Overall, this was the most amazing trip and I am so happy that I got the opportunity to experience everything I got to this trip. Dominica is so beautiful and everyone is so nice!! It was so safe anywhere we went and everything that we did and had so much fun. I love the split of work in the morning and fun in the afternoon. Overall was such an amazing experience.

It is beautiful! The food is good, the people are amazing, and the experiences are wonderful. Doing study abroad has opened up new opportunities and experiences that I may never have had back at home.

Hello! I'm a graduate student from TWU who had the incredible opportunity to participate in a study abroad program in Dominica. This experience allowed me to immerse myself in a new culture, try a variety of local foods, and embrace a different way of life. In addition to the cultural immersion, my main focus was providing speech and language therapy to those in need. This was made possible through a partnership between Therapy Abroad and TWU. It has truly been an unforgettable experience—I’ve worked with the most appreciative and grateful individuals, both adults and children. This was a life changing experience! I had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings and help others. It was amazing to witness the impact we made while there. I got to see the world in a different perspective by building connections with the people of Dominica. I grew my occupational therapy skills through hands-on experiences.
