In partnership with Dickinson College and open to all students, this program examines development and social change in Cameroon in the context of culture, politics, and the economy. Alongside Cameroonian college students, you’ll visit NGOs working on social issues in Cameroon and learn from development experts and grassroots activists. Through excursions to visit the Bamiléké and Bagyeli ethnic groups and modules on gender, disability, Indigenous culture, language, and religion, you will discover the complex relationships between identity and development. MONEY MATTERS SIT has given an average of over $1.3 million in scholarships and grants to SIT Study Abroad students in recent years and is committed to ensuring you have the information necessary to apply for such funding. Our program costs include academics, excursions, accommodations, airport transfers, and health insurance. Meal arrangements vary by program. Be sure to discuss how study abroad costs are handled at your school with your study abroad advisor and read the website for more specific information.

At the School in Cameroon, students sign and honor the Language Pledge, promising to speak only French during their time abroad. Those already at an advanced level of French come away from the program with superior language skills and the fact that they have gained an authentic study abroad experience. Yaoundé is an ideal place for immersion into Francophone-African life. Based at the Université Catholique d'Afrique Centrale, students in the Middlebury program in Cameroon take courses in several disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. They live with local families and commute to class. While the individual families vary in size and composition, students are welcomed into the extended family and are quickly made to feel a part of the greater community. The program director arranges one major excursion in Cameroon, and students are also strongly encouraged to participate in independent co-curricular activities. Through their coursework, extracurricular activities, internships, or volunteer work, students are expected to "live the language" in the capital of Cameroon.
