Founded in 1956, the University of New Orleans (UNO) is a 195-acre urban university set on the shores of Lake Pontchartrain, about 20 minutes away from the French Quarter of New Orleans, Louisiana. UNO was granted the prestigious title of a Research University by the Carnegie Foundation and has been a part of the University of Louisiana System since 2011. For five years in a row, UNO has been labeled as one of the schools whose graduates have the least amount of debt, with financial aid offered to 77% of the student population. Strong emphasis is placed on the business, engineering, and education fields, with many opportunities offered to get directly involved with the New Orleans city scene. Extracurricular options are also aplenty, with various sports tournaments and music gigs offered to students.
