Great course, great city
Submitted by Kristian Sears | December 15, 2017
If, like me, you have found yourself in a job that you hate, stuck in a town/city that bores you, and generally just need a change. Do it. I mean it. Imagine that I am Shia LaBeouf screaming at you from the screen. Just do it.
The city of Prague is an incredible place. So much more than stories of mental stag/hen parties (although the nights out are great). Prague is a city of extreme culture and sophistication. You can’t walk for five minutes in any direction without coming across a new restaurant, a theatre, a kino (cinema) or a museum. The public transport is some of the best in Europe, and takes no more than a couple of days to work out.
Also. Beer is cheaper than water.
As for the course, Spevacek is an interesting school. It is not based on a grandiose campus surrounded by students and teachers, although the HQ is based on the wonderful Náměstí Míru (Peace Square). Rather, Spevacek is a network of teachers and students that a spread all over Prague. Every qualified ESL teacher I met was great, and hugely supportive of our little group of trainees, often commenting wistfully about the dreaded “Week 3”.
The course itself is divided between four or five highly qualified and genuinely lovely Tutors, and much like University, each module is overseen by a particular one (each of whom have their own teaching style and personality).
Speaking of University, the LiveTEFL course is as - if not more - intense than a degree. Imagine having a semester of work condensesed into a month, and you’ll get the idea.
Despite this, I never felt overwhelmed by the volume of work, as the organisation and support of the tutors gave some much needed structure to a somewhat daunting workload. My advice: Take it one day at a time. Don’t leave until you’ve done everything you need to do that day, and you won’t get overwhelmed.
As for teaching, I couldn’t believe the amount of hands-on practice the school provides. In four weeks, you will teach loads of different students loads of different things, in loads of different locations across the City. This is by far the most valuable aspect of the course, and you will genuinely be able to feel your own progress by the end of Week 4.
Most importantly, listen to the the tutors. You WILL get feedback, and some of it might be tough to hear, but it’s incredibly useful if you remember that these people want you to be a great English teacher, and they’re trying to help you become that.
Like I said: Great Course. Great City. Absolutely recommend.
Overall, good experience

Every course out there has problems, and this one is not exempt. However, the overall experience of this course is incredible, and I'm glad that I chose it. I think as far as TEFL programs go, this is the best offer out there.
You learn a lot in a very short period of time. The content is not challenging, but you'll need to learn to manage your time extremely well. There are several teachers in the program, so you'll get to sample several teaching styles. That can be a bit discordant at times, but in the end I'm glad for the extra challenge of conflicting styles. I was able to design my own teaching style based off of which parts I liked best from each teacher.
Support from Live TEFL administrators was phenomenal. They helped find accommodation, they helped with the visa process, and they made the job search easy. Anna especially is a godsend. She organized social outings so you didn't go crazy in the classroom, and was ALWAYS available if you needed anything.
I learned a lot about myself and a lot about the material during this program, to say nothing about the city in which I chose to live.
Prague is the most incredible place that I have ever been to, and I think the greatest challenge that I will face during my tenure here is tearing myself away and returning to America.

I loved the programme and learned so much from it. It was an amazing, intense process which I am so glad I did. I have developed skills I will be able to use during my whole career in teaching and made friends I will keep in touch with for years to come. If you think this could be for you, do it! You will not regret it!
Awesome TEFL program

Amazing course! I received so much help and guidance before I even arrived in Prague and also throughout the course. All of the TEFL trainers are so full of knowledge and they are also really lovely people who care so much about the students. It was a very challenging course but you are given so much assistance and support from all of the staff. Not only did I learn about how to become a better teacher but I also had such an enjoyable time and made so many memories. I am so happy that I chose Live TEFL Prague because I think it is the best TEFL course out there :)

Live TEFL Prague taught me so much about what it takes to become a teacher of English as a foreign language. If I were to do this program again I would look more into the visa process on my own beforehand, for I was a little unprepared for what we were told, especially in regards to having to wait for a salary to come in while we waited for the visa to be approved.
