Iris Social Reviews
Life changing <3
Submitted by Júlia Chaves - Universidade de Brasília | October 13, 2017
I was a part of the first expedition of Iris Social, and it was absolutely amazing. I didn't know how much I needed that or how much impact this experience would have on me (and on the rest of the group and the locals!)
The group was amazing, the coordination of the project too. We built a plant nursery, learnt how to make cassava dough, visited a school in a nearby community, and learnt way more than you can imagine. The idea of joining tourism and volunteer work worked perfectly there, we visited so many beautiful places and the impact we had on the community was great as well. Anyone whos looking to do something amazing should consider working with Iris Social <3

Until now I am speechless! This experience was one the most important thing I did in my life. Be in communion with other volunteers and community working together and see day by day a project growing and getting ready was exciting! I could sow the seed to put in the future. In the end, I returned to my life, but inside, something chance and I never see the other the same way. It was a spiritual experience!

10 incredible days on a volunteer travel in the Amazon
Submitted by Sarah Pereira Morais Cardoso - Brasília Brazil | September 27, 2017
I participated in the tourism and volunteer program of Iris Social in Amazonia and it was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Iris Social's proposal is to integrate local tourism and volunteer work, providing a culture exchange between the participants and the local community and leaving a legacy with a positive impact for them. For this expedition they gave us the opportunity to build a nursery of plants native to the Amazon in an extativist reserve – RESEX Tapajós Arapiuns - that would serve the families of the 74 local communities. Through the help of the NGO Saúde e Alegria, which received us in the Amazon and hosted us in its experimental center of studies of the Amazonian forest, called the CEFA, we had all the guidelines to build the plant nursery, even without having any experience in construction! The participants came from various places and we formed a well-connected group. We had all the support for volunteer work and we also enjoyed the time in Amazon, participating in low impact and sustainable tourism activities that brought income to the local community. We took a boat trip along the river beaches, a trail through the Amazon rainforest, ate typical local foods, learned to make manioc flour in an artisan way, and danced a typical local dance called carimbó. It was one of the best experiences of my life and in the end we made the construction of the plant nursery with great joy and we returned to our homes with the certainty that we created bonds of friendship, left a beautiful job in the Amazon and we also gained an experience that will be forever in our hearts. It is impossible to describe the sense of accomplishment! Words cannot explain how pleased I am to be able to make this trip! I would recommend that you all go and discover how amazing Amazon is.
