Chinese Language Programs in Guilin, China

I returned to Omeida Chinese Academy after about a decade because I remembered how effective and human the learning experience was — and it absolutely still is. A typical day involved six 45-minute classes split between morning and afternoon, with generous breaks. The structure encourages focus without burnout. Classes are small and international, and the teaching style is immersive but flexible, always encouraging students to speak Chinese about things that genuinely interest them. What really stands out is the combination of language learning and cultural immersion. Weekly activities — from traditional music performances to local festivals — help place the language in its cultural context, which feels essential in China. Accommodation was clean, comfortable, and well organised, and the school was extremely helpful with practical needs (even having a bike ready for me on arrival). At 65, studying alongside much younger learners, I never once felt out of place. Omeida works equally well for beginners, returners like me, and advanced students preparing for exams. It’s a focused, supportive environment that makes real progress possible.

Our daughter of 7 spent a week with Omeida. She happened to be the youngest in the particular group she was in. Our daughter had been learning Chinese for 3 years. Since my wife and I do not speak Mandarin, we chose this program for a more immersive experience. We were very glad to see the Chineses activities were not only in the classroom, but also out on the streets, parks, and markets. One activity our daughter did was to ask in Chinese strangers do perform a task with them -- like take a picture or jump in the air. It was a very fun and engaging way to speak Chinese to native speakers. The staff were very attentive to her. For example, they make sure she had an umbrella and was covered when it rained, they carried the heavier items for her when needed, and looked out for her needs. The staff also created an environment conducive to kindness among campers. For example, during the cave exploration activity, despite having overalls on, our daughter was a bit short and water would have gotten wet. The campers carried her where the water level was high to keep her dry. Our daughter had been asking to return again next year for a full two week program. We are making plans to do that!

I studied for 5 months at Omeida and learned a lot more than i thought i would learn. The environment is beautiful and everyone is very kind! You not only learn Chinese but also the Chinese culture. Overall was this a very great experience!

I studied at Omeida for 3 weeks in 2024, and returned for 3 months in 2025. Omeida offers an extremely efficient, effective and welcoming environment. All the teachers and staff I interacted with were patient and supportive, offering their timely assistance from the moment I applied for the course until the very end. Classes are small and inclusive, and provide an environment where all students are encouraged to practise their speaking and learn from their mistakes. The weekly cultural classes and weekend activities are especially memorable, where you can interact with students from the English school, and dive deeper into Chinese culture. Thank you Omeida!!

Our experience with Omeida was excellent! My 16-year-old son attended for 3 weeks (2 week summer camp + 1 week private tuition), and was thoroughly impressed by the quality of instruction. The teachers are top-notch—highly skilled, patient, and deeply committed to helping students succeed in learning Chinese. The three-week camp provided an immersive environment where he could fully engage with the language. The instructors covered essential grammar points, practical vocabulary, and all four key language skills: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The lessons were well-structured and paced to match the students' different learning speeds, ensuring that everyone could keep up and feel confident. What truly stood out was the supportive atmosphere created by the teachers. They were always encouraging, readily answering questions, and offering constructive feedback. My son felt comfortable and motivated to learn, which made a significant difference in his progress. He also helped teach English to Chinese native students in his spare time. He enjoyed staying in the dorms with Chinese kids where he made new friends and practiced Chinese.

I came to Omeida for a week and I wished I could have stayed longer. The classes are small and teachers are very qualified, the learning experience is excellent. The building has a cosy coffee corner with mini library and study area, a very nice place to get together. All in all amazing value for money. Such great memories!

Yangshuo is a beautiful area to practice and learn Chinese. The Omeida Academy helped me move past being afraid of speaking, helped me to get my tones correct. They have a very good comprehensive study program.

When I told a friend I was learning Mandarin, he told me about Omeida. Another friend confirmed it being a positive experience. I wanted to see China for the first time so why not. Not only were the classes really good and the progress fast, but also the two weeks I spend in Yangshuo were also my favorite part of my 4 week trip to China. The region is full of cultural sites, entertainment and astounding nature, particularly the mountains, unlike anywhere I've been to. Besides the quality of the lessons, the school provides a really friendly, helpful and positive environment. They helped me with all sorts of chores to enjoy my stay to the max. The staff is always ready to help and they organize plenty of nice activities with all the students so you never get bored. I can't recommend it enough.

So, I decided to spend my Golden Week National Holiday here in China investing in myself and improve my Mandarin. I have been living in China since 2018 and had been looking for a school like Omedia to help me improve my Mandarin. My good friend Nikki referred me to this amazing school — Omeida Chinese Academy! To my surprise, of all the students in my class, I was the only one that actually lived in China! Within my class, there were people from all over the world here to study Mandarin…from Russia, Spain, Israel, France, Australia, UK, Mexico and America. Most will be here for at least 6 months to a year! I was so SHOCKED…and they were shocked that I actually lived here. The Academy has an amazing program, that is both challenging and fun! Even though I was only here a week, I feel I learned ALOT. Also the Yangshuo/Guilin area is so BEAUTIFUL…a lovely place to study and learn! One week was NOT ENOUGH!! I highly, highly recommend traveling here if you want to learn or improve your Mandarin. The staff is professional, kind and very very attentive. I can’t wait to come back! 加油❤️❤️ 国庆节快乐?❤️

My three children recently spent 2 weeks at the Omeida summer camp. They all loved the experience which was a perfect mixture of fun lessons and cultural activities such as a visit to the tea plantation, caving and rock climbing. They so enjoyed all aspects of the camp and making new friends. They are asking to attend again next year! The teacher and support staff could not have been nicer or more helpful.

My daughter (11 y.o.) spent two weeks in Omeida Summer Camp and was very happy there. Besides the rigorous Chinese course, Omeida offers a variety of amazing sport and cultural activities, like climbing, visiting a cave, pottering, visiting a tea plantation, rafting etc. She has got new friends and keeps asking me if she can come again next summer.

Hello everyone! One week now that I came back home! The trip to China was wonderful! I study Chinese at the Official Language School in Valencia (Spain) and wanted to visit China for my first time. My colleagues will travel to Omeida next September, I couldn't do it in September, so I decided to go by myself now in July. Great idea! Omeida English and Chinese schools are very well organised. Besides the classes, having a language partner (50/50 English/ Chinese) was great! Mine even took me to make some tourism around and helped me shopping too! Volunteering to speak English with Chinese people studying English was fun too!! (Doing that Omeida provides hosting!) My main purpose was to learn practical chinese and improve general fluency. I only stayed two weeks, but I could see how it improved. Not only because of the classes, but also thanks to the language partner and speaking at local shops and restaurants! Yangshuo, with its spectacular lanscape, is the perfect small-medium size location for that! Omeida also favor meeting people from all the world, with the nice common lounge and their cultural activities. Omeida staff are all very nice people, always trying to help you. Overall a fantastic trip! ?

I have taken classes both online and in person. The instructors do an excellent job of differentiation for the different levels of students in the class to keep them all engaged and learning. I will be back again.

I volunteered for 9 months at the marketing department helping with social media channels and communication tasks while taking mandarin classes. The team is helpful, welcoming and open to listen to new ideas. I had a flexible schedule and the job was clear and easy to do. The accommodation provided was clean and convenient, with a private bathroom and common laundry area. As a shared room with a Chinese student, I had many opportunities to interact and learn about language and culture. The school organizes weekly cultural and outdoor activities that make this a real immersive and fun experience. They also have a comfy student lounge where you can meet people, play mahjong, or just chill with a coffee. The location is great, in a small town among beautiful fairy-tale-like mountains. It's easy to rent an electric scooter or bicycle and explore the river and countryside nearby. It is also very safe at all times.

The instructors and staff were incredibly welcoming. Beyond the academic experience, you have the chance to interact with Chinese students and form lasting friendships by participating in various school events. The students are also very friendly, ensuring you never feel isolated.

The teachers and employees were super friendly. Aside from learning you get the opportunity to connect with chinese students and make some new good friends by taking part in school activities. The students are welcoming as well so there is no such thing as feeling alone.

Teachers are great! Much better than other schools I have studied at. The place, Yangshuo, is great for outdoor activities. The staff, especially Lucy, are helpful and nice. The new building is spacious and comfortable.

I absolutely loved learning Chinese with Omeida. Beautiful city and surroundings, super helpful and friendly staff, great teachers and overall fantastic work creating a great learning environment and atmosphere. Thank you so much Omeida team! I’m already planning to go back.

Omeida was above and beyond what I had expected in an immersion academy. It consists of a duel system where half the academy are students learning English and the other half are there to learn Mandarin. We're taught in different buildings next to each other and at the end of the day or during the weekend we came together to interact and practice our respective language skills. The staff was incredibly friendly, often chatting to me in Mandarin during coffee breaks and making sure that I had all my needs met. The food offered by the program was tasty local cuisine, the living quarters reminiscent of university times, and the teachers had great patience for my repeated grammatical errors. The area around Omeida is breathtakingly beautiful and if you rent a scooter you can see the landscape and the famous river that runs through it. I learned a lot in just a week with Omeida and I'll definitely be going back for longer!

I stayed at Omeida for a week and a half. It was a wonderful experience learning Chinese there. I believe learning in person there brought the language to life for me. Being there allowed the vocabulary I’ve learned to really stick with me，making it easier to learn. Hope to return in the summer with my daughter for more classes.
