Volunteer in Childcare in Kenya

Due to the high incidences of poverty and illness, childcare centers in Kenya can host 50 to 300 children at any one time and there is always high demand for volunteer assistance. Volunteers on the Childcare project in Kenya are placed in a range of orphanages and childcare centers, some of which house and foster abandoned and orphaned children, some that have schools attached, and others where volunteers live at the centers full time. Each center accommodates children of differing ages, however volunteers generally work with children between the ages of 1 to 16 years old. Placements can include pre-schools, baby daycare centers and orphanage centers. Whether the children are at home or at school, the centers are always busy, and volunteers can help with all areas of daily activity. Tasks can include cooking, cleaning, feeding, washing, and caring for the children, in addition to entertaining and playing with them.

Kenya - Masai Mara Lion and Wildlife Conservation

The incredible attraction of the famous migration over the Masai Mara has brought with it some conflict in competition for resources such as predator's praying on local livestock, and the Masai people not being as involved in the tourism project as would be hoped. The aims of this project are to ensure that the Mara remains a valuable source of income for the country and to increase local community involvement in the tourism process. Additionally, the project aims to monitor and research some of Africa's most endangered wildlife, and in partner with a Big Cat Monitoring project volunteers will help monitor the movement of prides of lions, leopards and cheetahs within the conservancy, as well as the interaction between lions and the local communities.

SAFARI with Acquire

August 23, 2025by: Darryel Reigh - United StatesProgram: Acquire Adventures Safaris | Adventure Safaris in Africa

The Reigh safari for Kenya and Tanzania was executional in every way. The driver/guides were extremely skilled as drivers on some very challenging terrain, but it is the guiding that was so competent and knowledgeable. Every logistical aspect of game viewing, lodge arrangements, and customs procedures were handled in immaculate detail that made all day game drives as pleasant as possible. Our “bag” included elephant, giraffe, Thompson and Grant’s gazelle, wildebeest, lion , leopard, buffalo, hartebeest, impala, dik-dik, cheetah, topi, hyena, jackal, bat eared fox, warthog, hippo, crocodile, eland, leopard and zebra. A large array of birds large and small were identified. Both guides made intensive searchs for black rhino. No luck. Several large herds of migrating wildebeest were observed. A veritable feast of wildlife in both numbers and variety. Lodging was first rate at all facilities with a special thank you for the incredible service of the whole staff at Mblageti in the Serengeti. Encountering some complications not related directly to the safari, Millicent Kimani dextrously handled some required rearrangements and assisted with rushed visas to make the safari possible. She responded to large numbers of emails and guided the complications of the safari endeavor flawlessly. I would recommend Acquire Adventure Safaris unequivocally and know the will produce an experience thrilling and memorable. Thanks again, Millicent.
